STUDENT GROWTH AND ACHIEVEMENT
Many thanks to our Title I team for coordinating recent GLM, ELA Data Day, and ELA session on February 14. Special thanks to Danielle Rapp and team for coordinating the math and PUOS sessions on February 14 too.
PSSA Information
Danielle, Mark, and I are the School Assessment Coordinators (SAC) for EV. Visit HERE to complete the Test Administrator training. No need to print your certificate, but I do recommend saving electronically for your files. Only staff employed by OJRSD can proctor or administer the PSSA, so all OJRSD staff at EV must complete the training in the event of staff absence.
Stay tuned for the PSSA schedule. Mark and Danielle are working on it, and it should be ready to share soon. As a reminder, only PSSA testing days have an alternative schedule.
SAFE AND CARING ENVIRONMENT
Thank you to Chrissie and Shawn for coordinating our SEL session on Friday and to Jen and the SWPBS Core Team for coordinating our most recent WFSG meeting. Thanks to Chrissie for providing our paraprofessionals with OLWEUS Bullying Prevention Program training during last week's para meetings.
Hallway Class this week: Wednesday from 3:15-4:00 p.m.
CLIMATE AND CULTURE
Thank you to our February treat team for sharing sweet goodies with us last week!
Black History Month
If you'd like to repeat or post any of the Morning Announcement BHM celebrations, visit HERE. Thanks to Steph Laubenstein and her class for coordinating and sharing daily facts with us.
Read Across America 2020
There’s a growing need for schools and libraries to include and promote diverse books. Students need books that provide both windows and mirrors if we are going to create more readers, writers, and people who feel included and recognized, and who understand that the world is far richer than just their experiences alone.
This past year, NEA (National Educational Association) rebranded it's Read Across America celebration to appeal to students of all ages and backgrounds. The NEA recognizes the need to work with a more diverse array of reading organizations and publishers to fulfill this need. Therefore, effective August 31, 2019, NEA will no longer have a licensing agreement with Dr. Seuss Enterprises. NEA Affiliates and members may no longer use the old Read Across America logo with the Cat in the Hat leaning over the U.S. map. The new Read Across America logo (below) has been developed for use by members and Association staff.
This year, East Vincent looks forward to joining in the celebration of a nation of diverse readers! Throughout the week of February 24th - March 2nd, staff will be celebrating reading and literacy where we motivate our students to fall in love with reading as we celebrate a nation of diverse readers with books, authors, and activities that represent an array of experiences and cultures. Stay tuned...more to come!!
BLT AND PAC UPDATES
The Building Leadership Team and the Principal's Advisory Committee met last week. A few key guests joined us, including Chrissie, Danielle, and Amy Rossman (mom of Marcus and Evan). Ask a member about the powerful discussion we had related to cultural awareness and responsiveness at EV, in OJRSD, and as a society.
The PAC is coordinating a Technology Workshop Series for parents on Thursday, May 14. I'll share more details as they are available.
COMMUNICATION HIGHLIGHT
Ideas for School-Wide Pledge... Share your thoughts!
The goal is to start reciting a school-wide pledge. I wonder if we want to include our school vision, mission, and shared values in some way. Thoughts?
Here is what was shared so far..
You are a scholar.
You are a good citizen.
Take off your home hat and put on your school hat.
At EV, we listen to EVERY adult.
Day 1 "At East Vincent, we choose kindness."
Day 2 "At East Vincent, we act respectfully."
Day 3 "At East Vincent, we take responsibility."
Day 4 "At East Vincent, we stay safe."
Day 5 "We are proud citizens and scholars of GoCATS Nation!"
We will do our best today to be East Vincent CATS.
We will choose kindness; we will act respectfully; we will take responsibility for our choices, and we will stay safe.
As CATS, we can make a difference in our school.

PRINCIPAL'S GOALS
Area 2. The perception of excluding others in decision making.
Area 1 Feedback:
Professional decisions-Feeling as though we need to get approval from Christine before making decisions that are necessary to do our jobs—can we use professional judgment?
Area 1 Response:
Absolutely! Please use your professional judgement. I have utmost trust in all of you. I'm unsure why people feel this way and PLEASE tell me if I'm doing something to give you the impression otherwise. I have enough on my to-do list let alone managing your to-do lists too. As always though, if you would like to run an idea by me, parent communicator, or something else, feel free.
Feel free to stop by a drop-in session scheduled for next week:
AM session Tuesday, February 18, 7:00-7:45
PM session Thursday, February 20, 3:15-4:00
