UPA Jaguar Newsletter

September 30th, 2020

Hello UPA Families,

We are very excited that Family Conferences are happening next week. This is one of our favorite times of the school year. We get to meet families, share student successes, set goals and create action plans for further improvement. Distance Learning makes our communication with families even more important than ever, so we can't wait for this opportunity to strengthen this partnership.

Expectations for Student Independent Work Time

Most students have been showing great attendance to live Zoom classes, however we have noticed that some students are having a difficult time completing their independent work. Each teacher is assigning 30 minutes of independent student work for a total of 90 minutes of independent work on Mon, Tue, Thurs, and Friday. Students should be completing a total of 180 minutes of independent work on Wednesdays. These guidelines are set by the state to make sure that students are receiving adequate access to learning during distance learning.

These independent assignments are found in each Canvas course and are labeled (A) in the title. The (A) stands for "asynchronous", a term used in distance learning to mean that students should be doing this work outside of Zoom class. Students are also expected to read a book of their choice for 30 minutes every day.
