New This Week
Homecoming Dance & PEP Rally for 9th Graders
The JCHS Homecoming Dance is Saturday, October 12 from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., at John Champe High School. Purchase your tickets online here! Tickets are $20 through Sunday, October 6 and $25 starting Monday, October 7.
After purchasing a ticket online, students must fill out and have a parent sign a permission form, available in the 9th grade house office and online here. If a student wishes to bring a guest from another school, there is a portion of that form that must be filled out with the guest information and a signature from the guest's principal. No one younger than 9th grade or older than 20 is allowed to attend the dance.
On Friday, October 11, all 9th grade Willard students have the opportunity to attend the Homecoming Pep Rally at JCHS. The pep rally will be in the morning, which means that our ninth grade students will miss most of their 2nd and 3rd block classes on that day. They will have lunch when they return from Champe. If students do not want to attend the pep rally, they will attend a study hall in the Willard auditorium.
In addition, all of our Willard Wildcats will be participating in our Spirit Week to celebrate the greatness of Homecoming. Check out the details below!
Calling All 8th Grade Volleyball Players
On Thursday, October 24, will be participating in the Dulles South Charity Volleyball game at Freedom High School, starting at 6:30 p.m. This annual charity competition between Lunsford, Mercer, and Willard strives to raise money for local charities.
In order to be able to participate in this amazing event, we need enthusiastic, eighth graders who love to play volleyball. Participants will need to commit to at least two practices, either before or after school, for no more than an hour. In addition, participants will need to be able to have a ride to and from Freedom on game day!
The first 12 participants to sign up will receive a free Willard Volleyball t-shirt--what could be better than that? Please complete the sign up form no later than Sunday, October 13, to register and receive further information from the Grade 8 Dean, Gela W. Russell.

Support our 9th Graders in "The Story of a Firefly"
Champe's elite competition drama team Excalibur is staging an original show called "The Story of a Firefly." The show is inspired by the true events of the life of a little girl named Parker who, in 2017, lost her battle to a terminal brain cancer called DIPG. The team is partnering with the organization The Cure Starts Now and Cannonballs for Kayne to raise money for research and to help families dealing with DIPG. Those interested in following the team through this journey, may visit: tinyurl.com/storyofafirefly.
Peer Tutors Wanted!
Your child has the opportunity to become a peer tutor at Homework Club. Peer tutors help other wildcats, earn volunteer hours, and may add this leadership position to their academic resumes. Students should be able to come to Homework Club to tutor at least twice a month. Homework Club meets every Wednesday in the library after school. Students can pick up an application outside of rooms 631 & 632. Applications are due with teacher signatures by the end of the school day on October 8.
Peer tutor applicants should come to the Homework Club meeting after school on October 9 for a brief training. We hope to see your wildcat take on this role! If you have any questions, please email Ms. Corbman at Kirsten.Corbman@lcps.org.
