Special Education Certification Extension Series

The Greater Rochester Teacher Center Network (GRTCN) has designed two online Certification Extension Course Series for special educators with a current Students with Disabilities Grades 1-6 certification: grades PreK-K and grades 7-8. The GRTCN worked with the NYS Education Department of Higher Education and Department of Special Education to ensure all courses in each series satisfy the CTLE requirements for special education certification extension using targeted special education coursework.

Each 45 hour synchronous online certification course includes three areas of learning (subsets): Knowledge of Students, Instructional Strategies and Professional Practice. Each subset is made up of 15 hours, composed of five 3-hour sessions of learning specific to the subset area.
