Message
I hope students were able to attend our Career Fair on Thursday April 14th. We had about 20 groups represented who provided various opportunities from jobs and internships to general information about particular careers. We had 3 community colleges in attendance with multiple departments from West Valley College. Four of the trades training programs were represented along with the Campbell Police Department and the Santa Clara County Fire Department. We had a great turnout from the students so hopefully next year will be even better! If you are a student who was unable to attend, I do have some handouts from several of the groups, so stop by my office if you would like to get any of those handouts.
As we head into the final 6 week grading period of this school year, students in AP classes should be ramping up for those tests. We will be having a lot of events for Seniors coming up so pay attention to the bulletin so you don't miss out on the FUN. Our College Application Readiness Series for Juniors is underway, so make sure to come to those if you are a Junior planning to apply to 4 year colleges in the fall. Finally, if you are looking for a summer job, PLEASE read the job section below because there are so many companies looking for employees.
Contest Winners!
The winners of the March Madness Trivia who correctly answered all 12 questions were: Beena Behtaj, Jupiter Polevoi, Matthew Taylor and Owen Demos. No one correctly guessed the Elite 8 teams.
CONGRATULATIONS to you all! Come to the College and Career Center to claim your Starbucks Gift Cards!

Seniors
The above is a clip from the UC Santa Barbara 2021-22 Campus Profile showing the Geographic Origin of the students at the time of admission. Many people assume that "our California" students don't get in to the UC's because they are accepting more out of state or foreign students. This data shows that only 18% of the students in the incoming freshman class were from other states or countries. There is similar data for UC San Diego and UC Los Angeles. For those schools the percentages were 25-30% of the incoming freshmen coming from other states or countries. However, that still makes the majority of incoming students from California. Below are links to the freshman class profiles at the some of the UCs:
UC San DiegoThe following scholarships are local to our community so your chances of getting them are far greater than if you apply to regional or national scholarship. Most of these will need to be turned into Mrs. Klaus or your counselor.

Juniors
Hopefully you are all researching colleges and creating your "Colleges I'm Thinking About" list in Naviance. If you came to the Phase 1 - Making a College List workshop on April 12th you learned how to use the SuperMatch College Search in Naviance to do this. We will be continuing with Phase 1 of the process on April 19th where you'll learn how to determine what you need for each application. We are having a few colleges visit this week so plan to come to those so you can get ideas for colleges you may not have heard of before and learn what to look for in a college.
Don't forget Mark your calendars NOW to save the dates for the follow up workshops where more detailed information will be given.

Iron Workers
Ironworkers install structural and reinforcing iron and steel to form and support bridges, roads, and other structures.
Ironworkers typically do the following:
- Read and follow blueprints, sketches, and other instructions
- Unload and stack prefabricated iron and steel so that it can be lifted with slings
- Signal crane operators who lift and position structural and reinforcing iron and steel
- Use shears, rod-bending machines, torches, handtools, and welding equipment to cut, bend, and weld the structural and reinforcing iron and steel
- Align structural and reinforcing iron and steel vertically and horizontally, using tag lines, plumb bobs, lasers, and levels
- Connect iron and steel with bolts, wire, or welds
- Install metal decking used in building construction
Structural and reinforcing iron and steel are important components of buildings, bridges, roads, and other structures. Even though the primary metal involved in this work is steel, workers often are known as ironworkers or erectors. Most of the work involves erecting new structures, but some ironworkers also help in the demolition, decommissioning, and rehabilitation of older buildings and bridges.
