Bobcat Bulletin
Week of September 27th
From the Desk of Principal Schmid
We had a great safety week! Students participated in a bus evacuation drill, fire drill, tornado drill review, bike safety (3rd-5th grade) with the Naperville Police Department, and a Lockdown drill with our School Resource Officer.
This week we also reviewed our building wide data from our Fall Universal Benchmarking screening as a Building Instructional Leadership Team (one team leader per grade level/team) and grade level data with each grade level team and members of the Academic Support Team (AST)/Special Education Team (SET). If students will be receiving additional supports beyond the core (Tier 1), parents were notified with a letter via backpack mail today. Students receiving additional supports will be monitored weekly or bi-weekly to track progress within the interventions. We thank you in advance for partnering with us to support the growth of all of our learners! We will let you know when this information is available via ParentVUE.
October brings even more extra curricular activities/clubs to Brookdale! Be sure to check out the information below to see sign-up forms to get your student involved in activities beyond the school day. Many of these clubs have a limited amount of spots!
Thank you for your continued support.
Thank you,
Mrs. Keeley Schmid

UPDATES
Post-Drill Lockdown Message
Today at approximately 9:10, we held a lockdown drill pursuant to the School Safety Drill Act covered under Illinois Statute (105 ILCS 12/20). Naperville law enforcement agency representatives assisted in the drill. I am happy to say that all our students, who participated in the drill, did very well and the drill was a success. The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority.

Yoga Club!
Attention 3-5th Students: First come, first serve to the first 15 students!! Students will be spaced 6 feet apart.
Healthy kids are smarter! Kids are busy with school, studies, family, and more, they get stressed just like adults. Yoga will help your children:
✅ Increase focus
✅ Boost confidence
✅ Create a sense of calm
✅ Build strength and flexibility
Students will be introduced to the mental and physical benefits of yoga. It is so important to guide our little ones in a positive lifestyle direction, especially during their formative years. A great practice to start bringing awareness to wellness is through mindfulness. Mindfulness practices can help kids learn to focus, reduce stress, have self-control over their emotions, and develop a positive outlook on life. My goal each morning is to teach children to self-regulate by using breath and movement.

REMINDERS
Winter Coat & Boot Drive
September 20 - October 1
The Indian Prairie Parents’ Council is asking you to Share the Warmth with your friends and neighbors by donating new or gently used, clean coats of all sizes (infant through adult plus size), in addition to other winter accessories (boots, hats, coats, scarves, snow pants, etc.). The winter items will be collected in schools from September 20 – October 1 and distributed to families in need within our district in early October. Please make sure zippers are in good working condition. Please drop off your items in the collection boxes labeled “Coat Drive” inside the front entrance of the school. If you have any questions, please contact Ann Cotner, our IPPC rep, at aecotner@yahoo.com.
"A book is a present you can open again and again."
"A book is a present you can open again and again". The Birthday Book Club program invites students to donate a book of their special choosing to the LMC during the month of their birthday. One day each month all students who have chosen to participate in the program will go to the LMC after morning announcements to choose his or her book. A photo of the student will be taken and placed in the book on a special bookplate indicating the donor and his or her birthday. The book will then be checked out to that student. This is a great way to give a lasting gift to the school and celebrate your birthday at the same time.
Registration for Brookdale’s Birthday Book club can be found in the Pushcoin webstore. https://www.ipsd.org/Subpage.aspx/OnlineMealPayments scroll to bottom of page to see Webstore instructions.
