Classroom Updates
Dear Kindergarten Families, Hello November!! This month in Kindergarten we will continue to work on our K-2 essential skills which will focus on completing assignments and staying on task. In ELA we will continue to work in our Wonders curriculum in Units 3 and 4 learning new sight words, new letters and sounds, and new grammar skills. In our Heggerty Phonemic Awareness curriculum we will continue to work on phonemic awareness skills that will help students to develop decoding and encoding skills to help their reading skills grow! In Eureka Math we will be working in Module 2 focusing on analyzing, describing, and creating two- and three- dimensional shapes by considering their attributes. As we seeing the weather changing and colder temperatures outside, please make sure your child has the appropriate clothing and shoes for the colder weather. Please be aware that our Fall food drive has started. Mesa will be collecting boxes of cornbread. Please help us by sending in boxes of cornbread. Cornbread can be sent to your students’ classrooms for collection. | Hello first grade families! This month we will be wrapping up our 2nd module on relationships between addition and subtraction. We will begin module 3, looking at properties of operations to make problems easier. In reading, we will continue to work on improving our reading fluency by continuing to build upon sight words and learning new phonics and spelling rules. It is important that your child is reading at home every night. Reading practice pages are sent home each week along with our newsletter. In writing, we will be talking about and writing about all the things we are thankful for. | Second grade has begun unit 2 in our reading curriculum. We will be focusing on main idea, problem and solution, as well as beginning, middle, and end. In writing we will be doing expository writing about animals. For math we will continue to look at place value and the different ways to model numbers. |

Hello, third grade families! Happy November! November is a full month of learning skills! In math we will be wrapping up place value in Module 2 and moving into Module 3. In Module three we circle back to multiplication and division. We will work on multiplication and division with units of 0, 1, 6, 7, 8, and 9. In ELA we will be focusing on author's point of view, theme and main idea. We will also continue to work on our grammar and spelling skills as we write! | Hello, fourth grade families! We have had a wonderful start to the second quarter of fourth grade. As we enter into the month of November, your fourth graders are going to begin learning to recognize and identify multiples and factors of whole numbers, learn to identify an author’s point of view in a text and use context clues to determine the meaning of an unknown word, and learn about the systems of plants and animals. Mesa will also be holding another community day at the end of the month in which we will honor veterans. We will also continue to discuss and work on essential skills this quarter in addition to all the exciting things were are learning. As always, we appreciate your ongoing support! Love, your fourth grade teachers. | Hello, 5th grade families! As we continue our 2nd quarter this month, we will continue to focus on addition and subtraction with fractions in math. Students will also learn about line plots and begin problem-solving with fractional measurements. It is amazing to see how students are able to make connections with the different skills and see how they can apply everyday skills that are used outside of the classroom! We will continue our discussion in Science about the solar system and patterns in space. In Social Studies we will begin learning about AmeriTowne. Finally, in ELA we will be learning about theme, personification, and homographs. We will continue using our RACE responses to answer questions throughout all subjects.
We are looking forward to a great 2nd quarter. As always, we appreciate all the support from our families, we couldn’t do this without you! |
