The following skills were selected from the fairy tale Cinderella by Grimm Brothers:
Imagery
Definition: Using the five senses to create a picture in the readers mind- sight, sound, touch, taste and smell.
Example in the tale Cinderella: "When winter came the snow lay like a white cloth over the grave and when the spring sun came and took the snow away the man married another wife." (Grimm, 120)
Conflict
Example in the Tale Cinderella: "But that wasn't all, because the sisters did everything they could to make things worse for the poor girl. The mocked her, made fun of her to their silly friends, and they had a special torment that never failed to amuse them: they would scatter dried peas or lentils among the ashes, so she had to sit on the floor and pick them all out again." (Grimm, 117) Man v. Man
Whenever the glass slipper didn't fit the step-sisters, Cinderella sneaked out and tried on the shoe. The slipper fit and because of the Cinderella married the prince. (Grimm) Man v. Fate
Cinderella's step-mother was very rude and inconsiderate. She made Cinderella cook, clean, and become a slave. The step-mother wouldn't allow her to go to the ball, instead Cinderella had to stay home and clean. (Grimm) Man v. Man
Tone
Example in the Tale Cinderella: Before she went to the ball, it makes the character feel sympathy for Cinderella, and it makes people feel hatred for the step-sisters. At the ball it makes you feel enchanted, and it closes with a happy ending. (Grimm)
Suspense
Definition: the intense feeling that the reader goes through while waiting for the outcome of certain events,
Example in the Tale Cinderella: When Cinderella has to leave the ball at midnight, she doesn't know if she will make it back home in time before the magic wears off. When the clock chimes it creates suspense. (Grimm)
Point of View

Omniscient: narrator knows the thoughts or feelings of every or multiple characters
Example in the Tale Cinderella: The tale is 3rd person. "When she felt she was near to death, she called her only daughter to her bedside."
