Good evening Sierra Madre Families, this is Mrs. Lewis, your principal. I know, I know….why am I calling during the Super Bowl?! Did you see that last play? Just kidding! I hope you have enjoyed your 3-day weekend and are ready to take on the 24th week of school this year!
Here are the announcements for this week:
Monday, February 14th we will have our BRAVO morning assembly starting at 7:50am. Please have your kiddo on time to school on time.
Tuesday, February 15th we will meet virtually with English Learner parents to discuss transitions to middle school and high school. Join using the link in the SMORE.
Wednesday, February 16th is our PTA general meeting at 6:30pm and restaurant night at Panda Express. See information below and link in the SMORE.
Thursday, February 17th is our first ever SEED Parent Summit! Please join us at 6:30pm for an evening of learning led by SEED experts. See the descriptions of offerings and links in the SMORE.

Diverse Bookroom Read Alouds

PTA
Our February PTA meeting is this Wednesday at 6:30 pm, and we're pairing it with Restaurant Night at Panda Express. Order your orange chicken and join our meeting to hear about our nominees for next year's executive board, and our next big fundraiser: the Jog-a-Thon. Details on how to join and the code for Restaurant Night are in the SMORE.
SEEDs
The SEED Summit is next Thursday, February 17th at 6:30 p.m! Speakers will be covering a variety of topics on diversity and equity. All participants will have opportunities to win one day family passes to the Japanese American National Museum and USC Pacific Asia Museum! Please check out the SEED Summit flyer in the SMORE for more detailed information about this exciting event!

COVID Screening and Testing at SME
Please STAY HOME if you have ANY symtoms.
Screening Questions Daily before coming to school
- Do I have a fever?
- Do I have a cough?
- Am I experiencing shortness of breath or difficulty breathing?
- Am I experiencing any other symptoms?
- Have I been in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 10 days?
- In the last 10 days, have I been directed to quarantine, isolate or take a COVID-19 test?
How and Where PUSD Students and Employees Can Get Tested
PUSD offers COVID-19 PCR oral or nasal swab tests on campuses and at the District’s Primary Clinic, 8 a.m. - 3:30 pm. By appointment, please call (626) 396-3600, ext 88180
On PUSD campuses(SME) weekly testing, on Thursdays, is available for ALL students and staff.

We are holding at 86% of students registered.
STEPS to follow if you get a POSITIVE COVID test result
1. Immediately isolate from all others(family, school, sports, after-school enrichment and daycare)
2. Contact Mrs. Lewis/Ms. Rupp to notify POS results
3. Expect a phone call/contact from Health Department for specific information and quarantine next steps
4. Receive a short-term independent study agreement from SME
5. Complete assigned school work, if feeling well
6. Call and/or contact school/teacher if any questions
STEPS to follow if you are requesting and Independent Study(IS) Agreement
1. Send an email to your kid's teacher and Mrs. Lewis to request an IS agreement
2. Include which days you are agreeing to work remotely on the Canvas work posted by the teacher.
3. Include if you are choosing to do an IS or if you are needing to, due to an exposure or POSITIVE COVID-19 lab confirmed PCR test.
*If your kiddo is fully vaccinated, they will NEED to test at school, or outside of school with a PCR lab-confirmed test EVERY week, in order to bypass quarantine guidelines!
PUSDs Vaccination Clinic Information
We have been conducting weekly vaccination clinics on Mondays in the south parking lot at the Ed Center. Please share the clinic registration link with your school community to make appointments to get their students vaccinated or boosted. We do accept walk-ins between 8-12 pm and 1-3:15 pm.
We offer primary series (1st and 2nd doses) as well as boosters. The links below are for 2/7 clinics.

I hope that this message finds you well. I’d like to introduce you to Maggie Angon, our PPHD Promotora Lead. Maggie heads our department group of Promotoras (community health workers), who educate and inform the community of various Public Health initiatives, including COVID-19 vaccinations. You may have seen Maggie and her wonderful team of ambassadors around town – at vaccination clinics, farmer’s markets, community events, schools, and more! They work at meeting our community where they are, and encouraging trust in Public Health to reduce health disparities.
