Monday Morning Memo - Week 25
3/4/18 - National Reading Month
Dear Poupard Staff,
Last week, I got multiple chances to observe our students leading throughout the school day. That of course doesn't just happen by chance. Behind some of our student leadership roles is an adult at Poupard providing that opportunity. Whether its helping a younger student, filming the announcements, helping students cross safely, cleaning the lunchroom or coordinating fundraisers, I appreciate the leadership from adults in making that possible. One of the goals for the Lighthouse Team for the 18-19 school year is for every student to have a school job. School jobs give students a strong sense of purpose, ownership of their environment and opportunities to practice teamwork.
I bring this up this week because I believe ALL of our learners deserve the opportunity to lead, even our students that struggle the most with managing their own behavior. Our Leadership Day in a few weeks will feature what each day at Poupard has the possibility of being. To make that possibility into a reality, I have a few things for each of us to consider:
How may we help students lead at Poupard?
What training/modeling would those learners require?
How often would the jobs occur?
How should we react when a student isn't leading?
Best,
Ali
