Points of Pride (Week of Feb. 10)
Alief ISD News and Recognitions
Congratulations to this year's Scholastic Art and Writing Award recipients!
The Harris County Department of Education serves as the regional sponsor of this prestigious national program and hosts yearly judging and awards ceremonies for thousands of writing and art entries submitted by Harris County teens.
This year, Alief ISD middle and high school students competed with students from Houston area school districts, private schools, charter schools and also competed with those who are home-schooled.
Entries were judged by panels of highly-qualified professionals who select Gold Key, Silver Key and Honorable Mention recipients. Gold Key winners go on to compete at the national level.
This year, Alief ISD students were awarded:
- Art - 14 Gold Keys, 25 Silver Keys and 36 Honorable Mentions
- Writing - 48 Gold Keys, 136 Silver Keys and 197 Honorable Mentions
Art created by Alief ISD students were selected to be a part of the Texas Art Education Association's Youth Art Month State Capitol Exhibit.
Student art from 61 school districts will be exhibited in two Austin locations: the Lower Rotunda at the State Capitol from March 1 to 7 and the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum from March 8 to 28.
