Easton High School’s Culinary Arts Program has been identified as “Exemplary” by the American Culinary Federation Education Foundation Accrediting Commission (ACFEFAC).

To qualify as an ACFEF Exemplary Program, a program must be confirmed in full compliance with ACFEF standards on based on an extensive application process and site visit. Those programs receive a grant of Accreditation and the Exemplary status. The Easton High School program, led by Mrs. Linda Brown and Mr. Joseph Candel, is one of eleven exemplary programs in Maryland. Additionally, Easton High’s Program is one of five exemplary programs in Maryland that is located in a comprehensive high school, meaning students are able to complete the Culinary Arts Program while also having access to all other high school courses.

In February, a team evaluating the program conducted an onsite visit. Utilizing a checklist and comparison of the program to the nationally recognized ACFEF Standards, the team determined that the program had substantially met the required eight (8) Standards areas in their entirety: Eligibility, Program Mission and Goals, Organization and Administration, Faculty and Staff, Curriculum, Facilities, Student Services and Assessment. A special emblem reflecting this prestigious status will be placed next to Easton High School’s information on the ACF website.

“Talbot county students are extremely fortunate to have access to the Culinary Arts Program,” said Mrs. Robin Werner, Curriculum Supervisor for Career and Technical Education. “Students completing our program have found great success applying their skills and knowledge to internships, careers and post-secondary opportunities.”

“Despite the challenges of the past two school years, our instructors showed incredible innovation and creativity to ensure students received the training necessary to be successful,” Mrs. Werner added. “We are also grateful to the local community partners who have played a part in our student’s success as interns. The exemplary status is a true testament to the dedication of our instructors, students and our community.”

The Easton High Concert Band took home a Superior (I) rating for their Grade IV performance at the District V Band Festival! CONGRATULATIONS WARRIORS!

A ceremony was held at Easton High School to induct new members into the school’s chapter of the National Latin Honor Society (NLHS). NLHS membership is granted to students who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and citizenship in Latin class.

The program included a welcome by NLHS President Madeline Principe and an introduction by Mrs. Inna Kunz, NLHS Advisor. The Guest Speakers were Natasha Panduwawala and Emily Redmond, EHS Class of 2019.

The inductees and officers recited the National Junior Classical League Creed, vowing to “hand on the torch of classical civilization in the modern world,” to uphold the standards of achievement of NLHS, and to continue to strive for excellence.

The ACE Mentor Program of Maryland, Eastern Shore held it's 18th annual awards ceremony at the Elks's Lodge on Wednesday March 9. Three teams from Easton High and St. Michaels Middle High presented their projects.

Founded in 1994, the ACE Mentor Program of America (ACE) is a free, award-winning, afterschool program designed to attract high school students into pursuing careers in the Architecture, Construction and Engineering industry, including skilled trades.

ACE is a federation of more than 75 affiliates (chapters), operating in 38 states and Canada, and largely based in metropolitan areas. With the support of generous local sponsors, we are fortunate to have the program here on the Eastern Shore.

The Talbot County Board of Education is moving forward in the search for a new Superintendent of Schools. The Board conducted a Stakeholder Input Survey for staff, students, families, and the general public to provide input to develop candidate characteristics. The information received from the survey was used to develop advertising, candidate characteristics, and interview questions.

The Board of Education is now seeking applicants for the position of Superintendent of Talbot County Public Schools. Application information may be found on the MABE website at http://www.mabe.org/services/current-maryland-vacancies/

The Board has also developed the following timeline:

• February 21, 2022 – Application materials will be made available
• March 28, 2022 – Application deadline for first consideration
• April – May 2022 – Interviews will be conducted
• Spring 2022 – The Board will approve the Superintendent contract at a regularly
scheduled board meeting
• July 1, 2022 – The Superintendent begins

Youth Mental Health First Aid USA is an eight-hour public education program that introduces participants to the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health programs in adolescents, builds understanding of the importance of early intervention, and teaches individuals how to help an adolescent in crisis or experiencing a mental health challenge. The program uses role-playing and simulations to demonstrate how to assess a mental health crisis; select interventions and provide initial help; and connect young people to professional, peer, social, and self-help care.

Bullying and cyberbullying, harassment and intimidation, hazing, and/or bias behaviors are unsafe behaviors that do not reflect respect for others as defined by Policy 10.16 on STUDENT CONDUCT – BULLYING, HARASSMENT OR INTIMIDATION . If a student is a target of one of these behaviors, you can report it using the Bullying, Harassment, or Intimidation Reporting Form (linked below).

The form is also available at all schools, in the main office and the school’s counseling office. Students can also report issues directly to a staff member. When a situation that involves any of these behaviors is reported, staff members will respond quickly and will provide a practical, private, and safe place to report.
