Principal's Point
This weekend we have a 3 day weekend. Labor Day is often treated as the last day of summer.
For most of us in Indiana, it's the last day that the local outdoor pool is open and the last chance to go for a swim. A lot of people host or go to a party or picnic on or around the Labor Day weekend.
One of my favorite things is that this is also around the start of football season. Both college football and NFL football begin their season around Labor Day.
There are also some parades and speeches given by leaders and politicians.
No one is quite sure who first came up with the idea of a Labor Day holiday in the United States. Some people say it was Peter J. McGuire, a cabinet maker, who proposed the day in May of 1882. Other people claim that Matthew Maguire was the first to propose the holiday.
Either way, the first Labor Day was held on September 5, 1882 in New York City. It wasn't a government holiday at the time. Before the day became a national federal holiday it was adopted by a number of states. The first state to officially adopt the holiday was Oregon in 1887.
However it started, it is a celebration of the American worker which has raised the nation’s standard of living and contributed to the greatest production the world has ever known which has brought us closer to the realization of our traditional ideals of economy and democracy.
It is appropriate, therefore, that the nation pays tribute on Labor Day to the creator of so much of the nation's strength, freedom, and leadership – the American worker.--
I hope you all enjoy your 3 day weekend however you decide to do so.
SHINE on!

Mr. Lugo's Brainbuster
Winner: Maci Spurrier knew the answer to last week's brainbuster was, "The man was bald". She has won lunch with Mr. Lugo from her favorite fast food restaurant.
Brainbuster:
There are three houses. One is red, one is blue and one is white. If the red house is to the left of the house in the middle, and the blue house is to the right of the house in the middle, where’s the White House?

Problem Solving
Problem solving is one of the lifeskills that we focus on throughout the school year. Problem solving is to seek solutions to difficult situations. In Second Step, we learn that there are 4 steps to solving a problem. They are:
S is for Say the Problem without blame.
T is for Think of Solutions safe and respectful.
E is for Explore Consequences what would happen if.
P is for Pick the Best Solution make your plan.
Ask your child about these problem solving steps. You can practice them at home for everyday problems.

Panorama Student Supports Survey
Noblesville Schools is committed to providing a great school experience for all students. To help achieve this we will use a platform called Panorama to survey students in grades 3-5 during the dates of August 30 - September 10. The survey seeks to gather input on topics like school climate and culture, emotion regulation and belonging. When students feel connected to their school environment, they are more engaged and increasingly successful in both academic and social achievements.
Although this survey is not mandatory, results will be used to determine any general trend needs of our school as a whole. In addition, input will provide valuable insights for future planning and programming. If you wish for your student to opt-out, you can submit an opt-out form. The survey is voluntary and students are welcome to choose an alternate activity (read, homework, etc.) at the time the survey is given.
If you have any questions regarding the survey, please contact our district counseling coordinator Dana Nelson at (317) 773- 3171 or dana_nelson@nobl.k12.in.us
Thank you for your support of this important opportunity to best serve students and our school community.
