Words from our Principal

BVM Families,

Welcome back and happy new year! We hope your students are off to great success for the beginning of second semester.

Some of our teachers are starting a Cameras On! campaign to encourage students to join live sessions with their cameras on. We are hoping this will increase engagement, participation and accountability. We are already hearing from parents that students are having a better experience this semester with their cameras on and they feel like they are getting to know their classmates. Please help us encourage your students to turn their cameras on when teachers request it. We are hoping they learn to love it!

As we prepare for another semester of distance learning, we want to make sure our students have all the support they need. We are seeing them adapt to the demands of online learning and we want them to have increased and continued success. Please take advantage of our online tutoring sessions (information is below) and and be sure to reach out to teachers and counselors when students are struggling.

This has been a big week for our nation. With the celebration of the life accomplishments of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the inauguration of a new president and our first woman vice president and vice president of color, students might be experiencing a whirlwind of emotions. Counselors are available for students if they need to chat or process emotions.

Thank you for your continued support during this difficult and uniquely different school year. Our students are resilient, but we want to make sure they have access to all of the tools, resources and people who can help them be successful.

Go Crusaders!

Congratulations to Caitlyn Dwyer!

Our Very own Caitlyn Dwyer was selected as a member of the California All State Honor Band.

Caitlyn's audition was due December 1st, so in September she started practicing and thought to herself “why am I even practicing this so much? I’m not good enough to get in.” Surprise! She made it!

Here is Caitlyn's description of her audition:

I recorded in my bedroom, and for one of the recordings you can hear my fish tank filter running in the background. I listened to a few of my takes, but knew I was too much of a perfectionist and would have stressed over the smallest mistake, so I had my dad choose which takes to send in. I sent the audition in on November 29th. At this point, my hopes were very low. I figured there was no chance I would get in. So, I just forgot about the whole thing and spent the rest of the month practicing fun Christmas music.

Then on December 29th, I woke up and checked my email. There was an email titled “2021 California All-State Audition Results are Posted” I clicked on the email, and without even reading the lengthy paragraphs, I went right to the link and read through the names. I went over to the junior high page and found my name. I was in such disbelief I thought I was reading the list of people who didn’t get in. So I went to my parents for clarification. Turns out I did in fact get in.

150 other students are in my ensemble, and I am 1 of 11 trombone players out of everyone who auditioned out of the entire state of California. To be honest, I still don’t believe I’m actually in.

Congratulations Caitlyn! You have made BVM proud!!

Teacher of the Month

Congratulations to Mr. Fuqua who was selected as the BVM Teacher of the Month! Mr. Fuqua is a US History teacher who is new to BVM this year. We are grateful to have him as part of our team!
