CPS Middle Schools Visit Fourth Grade
On Wednesday, April 6, fourth grade students from the Berkowitz, Hooks, Kelly and Sokolowski Elementary Schools enjoyed a presentation and question-and-answer session with representatives from the Browne Middle School, Morris H. Seigal Clark Avenue Middle School, and the Wright Science & Technology Academy. Middle school students and administrators took to the stage to help prepare our current fourth graders for what they can expect when they transition to middle school.
Chelsea District Art Show Returns this Month!
On Thursday, April 28, and Saturday, April 30, the Chelsea District Art Show returns to showcase all the amazing student-produced pieces in our district. Full details are available below. All members of the CPS community and City of Chelsea Community are welcome to attend. The event will feature display pieces as well as digital work representing student artwork and voices. We hope to see you there!
Middle School College and Career Fair
Chelsea Public Schools is proud to offer a College and Career Fair at our middle schools this May! On May 4, college representatives and career professionals will be at the Browne and Wright Middle Schools from 1:15-3:00 to speak with eighth grade students about potential future opportunities. Then on May 5, the event will shift to the Morris H. Seigal Clark Avenue Middle School where college representatives and career professionals will be available to meet with eight graders at CAMS! Families are invited too!
Middle School Information Night - Tuesday, April 12
On Tuesday, April 12, fourth grade families are invited to attend our Middle School Information Night beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Williams Complex. Families can attend to listed to presentations from our three middle school principals, ask questions to learn about each school, and much more. This event precedes when School Preference forms will be mailed home, which is on Thursday, April 14. We hope to see you there!

District Curriculum Coaches
The coaches are continuing to focus on Coaching for Equity and Higher Order Depth of Knowledge.
Grade 7 students at all three middle schools in Chelsea are studying how plastics in the ocean disrupt ecosystems as well as potential solutions to this problem. To supplement student research, MassBioEd provided materials and support for students to design and engineer filters that remove litter from a model ocean.
REACH Updates
Chelsea REACH hosted a Soca & Paint Day! Students got to meet one-on-one for social emotional check-ins, table games, paint, dance, and enjoyed pizza donated by a parent and community member.

Good luck to our High School Baseball, Softball and Track & Field teams and our newly formed High School Boys Volleyball club team, Middle School Flag Football and Track & Field teams!
High School Athletics Schedule is below.
Middle School Flag Football plays every Tuesday (except vacation) at 4pm at Everett Stadium through 5/10.
Middle School Track will compete on Thursdays - 4/14 @ Hormel Stadium (Medford), 4/28 @MacDonlad Stadium (Malden), 5/5 @ Dilboy Stadium (Somerville)
Miss Michelle and Miss Annie’s Pre-K class explored their community and visited the library to listen to a story and look at books and then stopped by City Hall to say hello!
The Berkowitz School celebrated third and fourth graders in preparation for MCAS, starting next week. Students have been working hard to become expert learners
Students in room H206 celebrated all of their hard work reading, reviewing books and sharing their opinions about them with a publishing party. These young authors are super proud of their accomplishment and even got a certificate to commemorate the occasion.
One of the students in 205 was so excited to share her reading at home with her family.
Ms. Giakoumis’ class is working on poetry this week. They had a fun time exploring the 5 senses using a clementine and getting some ideas to write their own poems.

Lab Investigations at CAMS
Grade 8 students at Clark Ave Middle School reviewed density by carrying out a lab investigation and then analyzing and interpreting the data. They measured the mass and volume of various liquids in order to calculate their densities. They then analyzed their data and used their findings to create a larger density column.
Students in Ms. Gilmartin’s art class are creating sculptures using materials that are recycled. It is great to see their creativity. Los estudiantes de la clase de arte de la Sra. Gilmartin están creando esculturas con materiales reciclados. nuestros estudiantes tienen mucha creatividad.

5th graders dressed up this week and interacted with each other as the biography subject they have been researching and writing about!
CHS Drama Club Presents "The 25th Annual Putnam Country Spelling Bee"
For the first time in three years, the CHS Drama Club performed on-stage in front of a live audience! It was Opening Night on Thursday for the three-night showing of "The 25th Annual Putnam Country Spelling Bee". It was an amazing showcase of the talents of these students, and if you missed Opening Night, there are still two more performances tonight and tomorrow at 7:00pm. Congratulations to all the members of the cast, crew, and all who were involved in this production:

Video Production Classes
CHS's Video Production classes created Public Service Announcements (PSAs) around the dangers of driving while distracted. In addition, some students submitted their PSAs to Project Yellow Light for the chance to be awarded an $8,000 scholarship for their video, should it be chosen as part of a national campaign to help end distracted driving.

Students in ELA 9 performed their own adaptations of their favorite Magical Realism story from Gabriel García Márquez's collection of stories.
Bird Beak Labs in Ms. Mazur's Class
Students had time to engineer their bird beaks and then competed to pick up "bird food" (a mix of many things from my pantry). A certain amount of gathered food meant they were able to "have offspring and pass on their beak genes". They were super competitive and really channeled their inner birds.
