Check out what is happening at Scenic Elementary School!
Letter from the Principal:
Greetings to all Scenic Families! What an awesome start to the 2023-2024 school year we have had! Our back to school celebration the first day of school allowed us to have a lot of fun, celebrate being back together at Scenic and help teachers and students begin to build relationships. I am so honored to be the principal at Scenic Elementary, it is a very special place. There are so many wonderful and strong traditions at Scenic that I have grown to absolutely love, such as WHBN (Work Hard, Be Nice) and our Flagpole Ceremonies. Then we have added some fun things to these strong traditions such as Spirit Rallies, Slushy Wednesdays and our awesome Fox Pride Cheer! It is my hope that we will continue to honor the important traditions that make Scenic so unique, while also continuing to add new ways to celebrate and have fun together! I know that some of our families enjoy joining us on Fridays for our Flagpole Ceremonies; I also wanted you to know that families are welcome to also join us at our Spirit Rallies on Fridays . Check the attached calendar to know which celebration will be happening.
Both our teachers and our students have been working hard since day one! Our district has a new reading program that is focused on high rigor for our students and the elements of Science of Reading. Teachers are being rock stars as they learn this new program along with students. Our students have really taken an interest in the new stories they have been reading and listening to. This new program, Into Reading by HMH, will be a focus at our school this year. Across the nation we are learning more about the Science of Reading (SOR), which is the evidence-based science of how we learn to read. Our teachers are learning about SOR and how teachers can use that information to help us help our student become great readers. If you want to learn more about the research behind the Science of Reading, I have included a link to an article HERE.
I have been so impressed with the focus and work ethic of our students. Whether they are learning a new math concept and having to really stretch their thinking, or they are discovering important information during a science lesson, I have witnessed students who are engaged in learning and excited to learn new things!! Thanks you to parents and families for supporting your students and helping them to be the very best learners that they can be.
Below you will find a QR Code where you can access an online Scenic Spirit Wear Store!! Take a picture of the QR code or use this link to go to the store. We will leave the store open until the end of this month. If you are not comfortable placing your order and paying for it online, you are welcome to come to the office and we can help you. If we help you place an order you can just pay our school directly, if you order online you will need to pay online, do whatever works the best for you. These are just some fun and different designs to wear on our School Spirit Days! We are expecting orders to arrive mid-October. These would be great options for Christmas gifts as we will be able to guarantee they will be here on time. A reminder that we have shirts and sweatshirts at the school office for sale with our official Scenic logo on them as another option. If you have any questions be sure to let me know!
Scenic Elementary really is an amazing school and I hope you are able to come and visit and be a part of the awesome things that happen here every day! I want to thank you all for making me feel so welcome! Moving to a different state and leading a different elementary school was a little scary and intimidating at times, but your children's smiles & hugs, the teacher's help & grace and how all of you have made me feel so at home has made my transition much easier!
Please do not hesitate to reach out if you should ever need anything . My door is open and my phone is always on! Have a very happy September and I hope to see you all during this month at one of our many upcoming activities!
Sincerely,
Kris Scott

Patriot Day
On Monday, September 11th we will have a special flag ceremony honoring our first responders and active military and veterans. Also, we will honor those Americans who died on September 11, 2001. If you are a veteran, active military or a first responder, please join us for this special occasion. Also, please wear your uniform if you would like. Our flag ceremony is open to everyone and is one of our great traditions at Scenic. All students are encouraged to wear red, white and blue - parents, feel free to wear red, white and blue as well. Our Patriot Day Ceremony starts at 8:50 AM in front of our school at the flagpole.
4th & 5th Student Council Members: Please report to school at 8:15 on this day!
PTO Walk-a-Thon
The Walk-A-Thon is on October 6th at Connected Lakes State Park. This fundraiser is one of the primary fundraising events for our school and helps support our
Literacy/Math Instructional Assistants and Office Secretary hours that Scenic does not have the funds to pay for. We also use the money to pay for other needs that arise, including educational needs in the classroom. Last year we raised $16,000. Envelopes were sent home on Monday, August 28th and are due back no later than Monday, September 11th. Parents are welcome to meet us right behind Chow Down Pet Supplies in the Safeway Shopping Center at 9:30 a.m. if they would like to join their child/children for the Walk-A-Thon. Thank you, as always, for your support!
Come one, come all! Please come to join us on Monday, September 11th at 4:30 PM in the library for our PTO meeting. We would love to get as many parents as possible involved in our Parent/Teacher Organization. If this is not a good time for you, please email Alicia Mabrey, PTO President, if you have any questions, ideas, or concerns.
Back to School BBQ
Don’t miss our annual Scenic BBQ to celebrate the start of the school year! This year’s BBQ will be on Friday, September 22nd from 5-7 pm. There will be free family activities such as a bump-n-jump, yard games, and face painting. Special Events include a teacher raffle, a silent auction, and the 5th-grade cakewalk. Food will be available for purchase. If you are interested in volunteering, look for the Sign-Up Genius link in an email coming soon or contact PTO at scenicpto@gmail.com.
Fall Back in the 80's Spirit Day
Our Scenic Student Council is planning a fun dress up day on Friday, September 22, 2023 for all staff and students. Join us as we"Fall Back to the 1980's"!
Scenic Student Council
Our 4th & 5th Grade Student Council Members have been working hard these past few weeks. They are selling our slushys on Wednesday, running our school store after school on Fridays, helping to plan our spirit rallies and just being all around awesome kiddos! We are so proud and thankful for each of them!
Student Drop Off & Pick Up
Morning Drop Off:
Please remember that children cannot be dropped off at school in the morning until 8:35 am, as we do not have outside supervision until then. If your child is eating breakfast at the school, they can be dropped off at 8:20 am when breakfast starts, they should enter through the front doors of the school. Also, if your child is tardy or late in the morning, please walk with them into the office and sign them in. One last thing: when dropping your child/children off in the drop off line in the morning, if possible, please avoid having your child get out of your vehicle on the left side, as sometimes cars buzz around cars that are parked and/or letting their children out. Thank you for your help and cooperation in keeping our children at Scenic safe.
Afternoon Pick Up
Students need to be picked up by 2:15 on Fridays or 4:15 M-T-W-Th. There will be an announcement made afterschool for students with no ride and no parent to report to the office. Parents will be called at this time. We do not have staff on duty to supervise students. For students to be able to stay on campus after school is dismissed there will need to be a parent present to supervise. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.
