Stanley Avenue School Newsletter
Term 1 Week 6 2022
COVID UPDATE
Over the last week Omicron has become widespread in Te Aroha. I would like to thank our Stanley Ave Community for their communication, support, and cooperation during these times. Like across New Zealand a number of our school families are self- isolating due to household cases. I realise that this can’t be easy, please know we are thinking of you all.
A reminder that as of 11.59 pm Friday 11th March, the self isolation time frame changes from 10 days to 7 days. If your children have been self- isolating, they must return a negative RAT test after 7 days.

John Byers
Mr Byers Principal Sabbatical- Term 2, 2022
As part of our Primary Principals Collective Agreement, every five years NZ Principals are entitled to apply for a term of Sabbatical Leave. The purpose of this is for Principals to carry out study and/ or an inquiry as well as have some rejuvenation time. The statistics of Principals leaving the profession due to burn out is alarming and has been reported on in the media recently.
Towards the end of 2021 I was awarded Sabbatical Leave for Term 2 this year. I will be carrying out an inquiry focusing on ‘Whānau Engagement’. This inquiry will see me visit a range of schools, observing effective practice and generating new ideas that I can bring back to Stanley Avenue School.
Additionally, it will allow me more quality family time, where I can be a more present husband and father.
Di Meyler, will be Acting Principal in my absence and Chris Finucane will be Acting Deputy Principal. Angela Valencia, will be the Team Ruru leader for the term. I am excited for Di, Chris and Angela to be given the opportunity to further their leadership experience. This will only enhance Stanley Avenue School’s leadership capability and capacity moving forward.
I am grateful to the Stanley Avenue Board of Trustees for allowing me this opportunity and to the Stanley Avenue staff for their support and encouragement.
