A Message From Dr. Flowers- Principal
Dear Families,
I hope this message finds you well. This week we completed our state testing for students in grades three, four, and five. We had a blast celebrating our students for their excellent work by having popcorn and hot dogs on the playground this afternoon.
I want to remind you that our PTA is hosting a garage sale on Saturday, May 20th. You can reserve a spot to sell any unwanted items. This is going to be an enjoyable event and I encourage you to come and participate by selling or shopping. There will be food trucks on site!
Thank you for your continued support.

COUNSELORS CORNER!
.Brimfield’s Bee Healthy Week!
With the start of the warm weather and everyone spending more time outside we wanted to encourage healthy activities you can do outside as well as making safe choices! This week we will be providing different activities at recess led by Dr. Flowers, Mr. Lynch, Mr. Turner and Mrs. Kuzas. We will also be discussing ideas on how to stay safe this summer! We will finish the week off with the Color Run!
Monday: Mindfulness Walk around the school grounds! Use your senses to find something new you have never noticed before.
Tuesday: Build your muscles with a muscle strength scavenger hunt! Follow the scavenger hunt and complete the activities outside! Turn it in for a drawing for a prize!
Wednesday: Jump for joy for the warm weather! Grab a friend and show off your jump roping skills from P.E. class!
Thursday: Relax those muscles and do some guided stretching! Follow along and join in the conversation about why it is so important to stretch your muscles!
Friday: The Color Run!
COLOR RUN
Brimfield’s Bee Healthy Color Run
May 12th
4/5th grade Student Council is proud to present Brimfield Elementary
Annual Color Run on Friday, May 12th!
Primary grades (K-2) will walk/run half a mile, intermediate grades (3-5) will walk/run 1 mile.
How the COLOR part works:
− The race course in the field behind the school will have color zones where Student Council Members will spray non-toxic wet color (water, food color, & vinegar) towards the students’ torso for each lap completed. Color zones can be bypassed if a student does not wish to go through.
We will use the following indicators for student participation in color zones. If a student is wearing:
WHITE/LIGHT Colored Clothing = I want to be COLORED
BLACK/DARK Colored Clothing = I do NOT want to be COLORED
Race day:
− On May 12th send your child to school wearing white (if he or she wants to be sprayed with color) or black (if he or she does not want sprayed with color) and appropriate running shoes.
− Students may dress up with tutus or any other fun run wear that you don’t mind getting colored. Sunglasses or goggles are recommended.
− The wet color is non-toxic and might wash out of clothing. However, we recommend that the students wear clothing you don’t mind getting colored. We also recommend your child brings a change of clothes and a Ziploc bag for his or her shirt.
− You may wish to have a towel for car riders to sit on for the ride home.
Fundraising:
− There isn’t a set amount in order to enter the Color Run. All donations are appreciated and will go towards Brimfield Elementary’s Student Council Fund. The 4/5th grade Student Council will vote on how the monies raised will be spent to help the school next year.
− Students should NOT go door-to-door fundraising. Please only have students ask friends and relatives to sponsor their run.
Prizes:
− The class that raises the most money will win a Silly String Party!
− For every $5 a student collects, he or she will receive 1 raffle ticket to be entered for prizes.
Important Dates:
− Permission slips are due by May 3
− Pledge forms and donations are due by May 5th
− Brimfield Elementary’s Color Run will be held on May 12th

PBIS CORNER
What is PBIS?
Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports is an important part of the school environment to encourage positive behavior. There are clear expectations throughout the school that are taught consistently throughout the year. The four expectations promoted at Field Local Schools are:
Safe
Outstanding
Accountable
Respectful
When students do not respond to teaching of the building or classroom expectations, we will view it as an opportunity for re-teaching, not just negative consequences. Students still receive consequences for negative behavior. The goal of the consequence is to teach students so they will not repeat the negative behavior.
