How to read food labels

The ingredient list shows all the ingredients in a food product.

Ingredients are listed in order of weight, beginning with the ingredient that weighs the most and ending with the ingredient that weighs the least. This means that a food contains more of the ingredients found at the beginning of the list, and less of the ingredients at the end of the list.

This can help you if you have a food allergy.

It can also help you find out what the food contains and the amount of the ingredients in it.

Food Labels

Read the food labels carefully. Look at the calories. Look at the fats, cholesterol, sodium and sugars. These should be low. Look at the proteins, vitamins, fibers and minerals. These should be high. Compare with other products and make smart choices.
