Sodus Intermediate School Update
September 6 Update For Intermediate Families
School Starts Wednesday, September 9 For All Intermediate School Students (100% Virtual and In-Person Learning)
School starts this week! Whether your child is starting this school year with the in-person (hybrid) or 100% virtual (online) instructional model, classes begin this Wednesday! Our Intermediate Team has been working hard all summer to prepare for the opening of school and we are excited that the start is finally here!
This year promises to be an very different with some unique challenges due to COVID-19, but those challenges are also opportunities to explore new ways of engaging students. I am proud of the instructional program we have created for our Intermediate Spartans - a program that is both rigorous and supportive. Using technology, students at home and in campus will be able to get instruction in core academic areas and special area classes. All students will have a daily intervention block to support skill development in reading and mathematics.
All students (in-person and online) will have continue to have a "school day" that runs from 7:25 AM - 2:55 PM, with a combination of "live" instruction from teachers in the morning (in-person or through at home through the webcam) and work-time in the afternoon. All students will be assigned to work with a Teaching Assistant twice a week in the afternoon during what their assigned "WIN" classes. WIN stands for "What I Need", and TA's will be working with teachers to use this time to support each student in working on areas they are struggling with.
Please take a few minutes to look through this newsletter for information regarding the start of school for all students- both virtual, online learners and in-person hybrid learners. This week teachers have been sharing "Welcome Back" letters for students through ParentSquare and SchoolMessenger. If you receive a "Welcome Back" post or email, please share this with your child, so he or she can get as excited to start the new school year as their teachers are.
Lastly, I please know that our Intermediate Team is committed to meeting the needs of all of our Intermediate Spartans, regardless of the instructional model you have chosen for your child. Whether he or she will be attending classes or online, your child will receive an outstanding academic program this year. Our Intermediate Team is dedicated to our students and community, and working together we can overcome any challenge that this year presents.
Thank you for the privilege of working with your child this year!
