Jog-a-Thon is February 11
Jog-a-thon packets were sent home last Friday. Students are being asked to reach out to family members, relatives, family friends and acquaintances for financial support as they pledge to run for their health on Tuesday, February 11. The pledge amount is a flat donation, and it can be anywhere from $5, $20, to $100 or more -- every dollar adds up! Some employers offer corporate matching, doubling your contribution. Collection envelopes are due to your classroom teachers by Tuesday, February 11. ONLINE DONATIONS will be accepted using this link - https://app.99pledges.com/fund/ParkVillage2020
Park Village Elementary is a school where student learning thrives and children feel good about the place they call their school. We believe that this is because of the incredible students that attend our school, the awesome staff who believe that relationships with students are key to optimal learning, and more importantly, the generous support of our families. We could not engage in the wonderful learning opportunities and the fun things we do here without your monetary support. Please know that no amount is too small. Your ongoing support is truly appreciated! *Donations must be made by February 11 to be considered for individual and class incentive prizes.*
Help support Science with Mrs Nellies, Music with Miss LaDow, PE with Coach Mills, Art with Mrs Hirst, Technology, and community programs at PV!
This year's prizes & incentives:
- Students who collect $100 or more will be entered in a drawing for 4 Disney Park Hopper tickets.
- Students who collect $75 or more will be entered in a drawing for an Apple iPad, generously donated by Mira Mesa Auto Tech.
- Students who collect $50 or more will be entered in a drawing for a Snap Circuits Lights set, generously donated by Pacific Polo.
- Students who run the most laps will be entered in a drawing for a gift card for new shoes, generously donated by Fleet Feet Sports.
Our school-wide goal is to raise $25,000 in Jog-a-thon donations. It is a tradition to have a BIG SCHOOL-WIDE INCENTIVE for reaching our fundraising goal. This year, if we raise $25,000, the top earning students will race a teacher in an inflatable obstacle course during a special assembly! Every class will have an opportunity to run the inflatable obstacle course separately. The top fundraising classroom will have a Friday ice cream party! We can do it, PV!
D.A.D.S. Work Party February 8
Astronomy Night a Success!
By Victor Chan, D.A.D.S. President
Thank you to all who came and enjoyed the event, and a big Thank You to local astronomer Damon Blackman, the Westview Astronomy Club, and especially to the Dads who volunteered and smoothly ran the event. We had a great turnout, and mother nature pretty much cooperated this time. I was unable to get very many pictures of the event, so if you have any that you would like to share please contact me at pvesdads1@gmail.com. If you are interested in any of the programs that were projected onto the wall outside, contact me and I can let you know the titles.
If you enjoyed Astronomy Night, come help out with the DADS Group! Our next work party is scheduled for 2/8, 8AM-12PM (weather permitting) when we plan to build some planter boxes for the classroom patios and repair some backpack hook shelves and replace some broken hooks. If you are not on the mailchimp DADS email list, please contact me at pvesdads1@gmail.com .

A New Way to Track Box Tops Participation!
Now when families use the Box Tops app to scan their store receipt, they can "Give Credit" to a teacher! To "Give Credit" make sure you have the latest version of the Box Tops app, scan your receipt, then tap the star icon to enter your "Give Credit" memo.
You can still clip Box Tops on packages & send them to school. Physical Box Top clips are being phased out of production, but may continue to be found on many products throughout the store. Send your clipped Box Tops, along with any unexpired clips you may have at home, to your teacher.

Volunteer Opportunities for 2019 - 2020
Park Village prides itself on our programs and events. However, they are all run by parent volunteers, and we need your help! We have opportunities of all types and sizes. Even one hour once a month can make a difference!
- Library - Help reshelve books. This task is constant and can happen any time of day. Perhaps you can help after morning drop-off or while waiting to pick up your child in the afternoon? You can make a difference in as little as 15-20 minutes. I just need folks to stop by regularly. Many hands make light work! No experience is required. If you’re interested, please email me at sfleming@powayusd.com, or stop by the library to chat.
- Recycling - Help sort and crush recycling. Second Wednesday of every month, 8-9 am, ESS Parking Lot. Even 15-30 minutes before school is a big help!. Contact Victor at pvesdads1@gmail.com.
- Science Night Volunteers - You will oversee a station while our little ones sharpen their science skills with their parents. Please sign up for a night when your own child is not attending - PV Science Night Volunteers. Contact Shannon Nellies at s.nellies72@gmail.com.
- Marquee Editor in Chief(s) - Update the marquee in the front of the school with our PVE news, and help keep our families informed! Contact Gigi in the office.
Parking Lot Reminders
Please remember that the parking lot is for teachers and staff only, with the exception of the clearly marked visitor spots. We have many support staff members whose hours begin after class is in session. When they have to spend their time searching for parking off campus, it negatively impacts our student services. Thank you for your help!
