Principal Fountain's Message To Families
Dear Families,
The CCSD Board of Trustees will be hosting a series of engagement sessions around the county over the next two weeks to get feedback from all Charleston County residents in developing shared goals for students. Please consider attending the in-person session at Lucy Beckham High School on September 27 at 6pm, or share your feedback by completing this short survey.
We have so much fun at JBE- lots of learning infused with music, poetry, games, and art. It is a joyful place where students learn to develop empathy which is essential for being able to show respect, one of our six Principles of Leadership:
Leaders Respect Others
I actively listen to understand people’s feelings, beliefs, and ideas, because diversity is our strength. I use both my words and body language to make others feel comfortable and appreciated.
We have been working so hard to learn the routines and procedures of JBE these first weeks of school and many of the expectations we are practicing are about showing respect. For example, we expect students to be at a "volume level" zero in the hall bathrooms, not to be mean, but because we appreciate people working in areas near the bathroom and we don't want to disturb them. As we get our routines, procedures, and expectations nailed down, we will be able to have more visitors and guests come into the building for special events. Thank you for supporting JBE students, teachers, and staff as we start this school year off right!
Love,
Principal Fountain

JBEONE.org website - PLEASE UPDATE YOUR INFO
Update from the Faculty Relations Team:
May Day Committee: Ms. Newton is looking for a team of volunteers who can help her prepare for May Day as the tasks arise. If this is something you would be interested in, please email hello@jbeone.org
Own a business? Please email Amelia Smith ameliabsmith@yahoo.com or Shannon Rice sstaffordrice@gmail.com if you would like to sponsor a JBE staff meal or treat.
Room Parents: Please check with your child’s teacher and make sure they have a room parent. If they do not, please email us at hello@jbeone.org if you would like to be one. Not only do teachers need the support, but every class needs a JBE One liaison.
Grief Support (Sand Dollar Club)
The pressures of school & life can weigh heavily on a grieving child and (the research shows) there is nothing more encouraging than being surrounded by other children who have experienced a loss, too. Sand Dollar Club is a peer support group that helps kids feel less alone in their grief. If you are interested in having your child participate in the after school program, please email Mrs. Bottomley at christina_bottomley@charleston.k12.sc.us
Backpack Buddies
The BackPack Buddies program is offered through a partnership with the Lowcountry Food Bank. The program operates throughout the school year and students in the program receive a free bag of snacks to take home every weekend. If you are interested in this service, please email Katie Perron at Katherine_perron@charleston.k12.sc.us
BUSINESS SPONSORSHIPS AVAILABLE for the JBE COLOR RUN CAPITAL CAMPAIGN - CLOSES SEPT. 30TH
We are looking for Business Sponsors to offset the costs of the Color Run that concludes the campaign so that 100% of the proceeds earned by the students participating can go directly back to the school. If you'd like more information, please see visit our website and see this attachment. You can also complete a sponsorship using this form.
Emergency Contacts/ Permission to Pick Up
If someone comes to check your child out of school (a grandparent, an aunt, a stepmom, a neighbor, etc.) we are not able to see if you gave permission for that to happen. Also, and more importantly, if there is a medical emergency and we cannot get hold of a parent, who can we call? The district has fixed the problem for future registrations, but we must back peddle and ask you to please share your child's emergency contact information once again.
Please fill this google form out immediately.
