We Are A.R.M.Y. Strong!!

Each day, we say the Continental Creed: "As a member of the Continental Army, I promise to be Accountable, Respectful, Motivated to Learn, and do mY best." We also remind students of our school goal of achieving a letter grade of a B in three years or less....Students will hear us say "Are you helping us get to a B in 3?" If we all focus on being ARMY Strong every day, we will reach this goal!

Parent-Teacher Communication Improved

We are linking the class websites to the newsletter each week. These websites are also linked to the school website. Teacher teams will update the websites each Friday for the following week. Please see our school website or click the links below to see what's happening each week. You can also use the RDS Parent Access to find out how your child is doing in their classes.

WMS celebrated a week of ISTEP+ with Fun Friday

Despite having three snow days disrupt the ISTEP+ testing window, our students finished off the first round of ISTEP+ testing strongly. Many teachers commented on the fact that students worked very hard and used the entire time allotted to work and check their answers. As a reward for being present, working hard and not disrupting classes, we spent Friday afternoon giving students the option of movie, quiet time or gym time. Every student matters and is part of the team that will move our school to a letter grade of "B in 3" years. We're proud of our kids and look forward to the second round of ISTEP+ in a few weeks. Together we are ARMY Strong!

Acuity testing for Math and ELA begins this week

Students will take their last Acuity assessment for Math and ELA this week. This test will help us identify student needs prior to the second round of ISTEP+. The results of this test help us place students into small groups for the WIN (What I Need) period during the school day.

Boys Cub Wrestling Team Takes 4th in the City Meet

Congratulations to our first ever Bosse Cub Wrestling team for placing fourth in the city meet. DeKarry Garnett took first in the city in his weight class and Kameron Jackson took second in the city!! These boys and the rest of the team represented WMS very well. We're proud of the work they put in. Thanks to Mr. Happe and Mr. Shoobridge for starting our wrestling team this year!

ALICE training for students

The EVSC is following the national recommendations for disaster drills. We will be practicing the new procedures for protecting students and staff in the event of an intruder. We have already trained our staff and students, but we will complete our drill this week. If you have questions or concerns regarding this drill, please contact the office.

PTSA Box Top Drive Winners Announced

You did it again! You clipped and collected Box Tops, turned them in and helped your school! You turned in 1,549 of them to be exact. That is $154.00 for Washington Middle School programs and events. Donovan McNeal brought in the most with 397. Madison Osborne was second bringing in 282. Mr. Barnett's 1st period won the class prize. Both those students are in that room. I will get Donovan's $25 Target gift card in the mail asap! We'll look for a sunny day to have an extra recess outside with Mr. Barnett's class during the WIN period.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our Box Top Blitz. Please keep clipping and collecting those box tops. You can be certain that there will be another Box Top Blitz in the fall.

Bosse Cub Baseball Tryouts this week

Track Tryouts this week

Any student interested in running track this spring should stay on Tuesday and Thursday for tryouts. Coach Shoobridge will discuss the requirements and do some drills. We look forward to another solid year of Middle School Track at WMS.

School Make-up Days

The EVSC took the feedback from the parent and staff surveys to assist in making a decision about snow make-up days. The decision will be made and approved at the school board meeting Monday night and announced by Tuesday. We'll keep you posted on how we will make up the seven days required. Thank you for your feedback and patience.
