Weekly Update
Aside from the mid-April snow, we had a great week back after Spring Break! As with any break, we spent some time this week reviewing the Ranger Way (Be safe, be respectful, be responsible) and expectations in each area of our school. Our student jumped right back into learning as well! It is an exciting time of year as we can see the efforts of our students and teachers throughout the year as some concepts start to really "click" for students! I have seen much of that this week with Kindergarteners reading sight words, 1st graders reading fluently, and 3rd graders learning about fractions!
Mrs. Simonson, our STEAM teacher, is collecting shoeboxes for an upcoming project. If you have any extras, please send them in. Thank you!

Lahar Drill April 29th
Many of you know that we conduct emergency preparedness drills monthly in accordance with state law including fire drills, lockdown drills, and shelter-in-place drills. This month we are joining other regional school districts in a large-scale joint exercise that includes all area emergency management agencies. You will likely hear about this given the scale of this joint exercise so we wanted to make sure you were aware.
The East Pierce Interlocal Coalition Emergency Management Team, surrounding school districts (Puyallup, Sumner-Bonney Lake, Orting, White River, Carbonado), and partners are coordinating a full-scale lahar evacuation drill. The drill is designed to test and improve the ability to evacuate students and staff in the event of an incoming lahar from Mount Rainier. The exercise is scheduled to take place on Friday, April 29, 2022. All plans and procedures emphasize the safety of participants.
What does this mean for our students? Because our school is not in a designated evacuation area, we will only participate in the shelter-in-place portion of the exercise. We will then return to normal operations while members of the district team coordinate with local first responders to ensure we have the systems in place to support evacuees in the event of an actual emergency.
Volunteers
We are now able to welcome volunteers back into the building! If you are interested in volunteering at Elk Ridge, please fill out a Volunteer Application through our Frontline Hiring system. Specific information regarding volunteer requirements is available there.
Thank you, Ranger Families, for your partnership and support!
Reminders
- Please contact the office if there are any changes to your child's end of day transportation for the day.
- Please keep your child home when they are sick!
- If your child will be absent, please call the office to let us know!
- Please be mindful during arrival and drop-off times, whether you are on our campus or on a neighboring street. Our goal is for students to arrive and leave school safely each day! Please remember that drop off is not a place to park. If you are here early and want to wait until the bell rings to send your student out, please park in the parking lot rather than waiting in the drop off loop. Thank you!
