Newsletter Week 2, Term 1

St Michael's Catholic School Rotorua, Wednesday 9 February

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Tēnā koutou kātoa e te whānau,

Welcome to the new school year. I trust you all had a wonderfully restful summer break with your whanau. 2022 is promising to be another eventful year full of exciting opportunities and challenges.

This year we are lucky to have Ruth O'Leary and Jo Fleet join our teaching staff. They will be job sharing in Eden 6 and are very much looking forward to becoming part of our St Michael's whanau. Mrs. Marion Brits has taken refreshment leave for 2022 and will return to us in 2023.

We also have new families to our school this year. A huge welcome to all the new children and their whanau, we hope you enjoy your time at St Michael's Catholic School. We currently have a small number of non preference spaces available for this year and we always welcome Catholic families to our wonderful little school. If you know of families who wish to enrol their children at St Michael's please send them to the school office for an enrolment pack.

As we are currently at Covid Red Level and are following our school procedures, some events that were planned for this term will sadly have to be postponed. We will however celebrate Pancake Tuesday but will do so within each class. Our Ash Wednesday Liturgy will also have to take place in class bubbles. Unfortunately parents will not be permitted to attend these events but we will post photos on Seesaw and the school Facebook page. Please let your child's teacher know if you are not yet connected to Seesaw or the School App. You will be missing vital information if you are not connected.

Health and Safety

St Michael's is a Sun Smart School. Please help us to keep your children sun smart by making sure they bring their named school hat everyday. We supply sun screen for the children to use during break times.

Please let your child's teacher know if they have an allergy to sun screen. Children without hats will be asked to play under the trees.

The Year 5 and 6 children in Galilee are doing a fantastic job of remembering their face masks. I know this is a big ask for children to spend their day with a mask on and I would like to thank you all for your support around this mandate. Our teachers are doing their very best to give the children many opportunities to work outside. I am very proud of our senior children, they are certainly fantastic role models for our younger children.
