A Note from your Principal

Dear West Newton families,

Welcome back to another wonderful year at West Newton Elementary! All staff members are excited to see our students and it has been so much fun to see our students and staff jumping right back in to teaching and learning. We welcome family members as volunteers at West Newton and you can access this information on the website. West Newton’s focus for the first 45 days of school is three-fold: Content Vocabulary, Interventions, and Classroom Culture. Our Instructional Leadership Team made up of Mr. Werner – assistant principal, Mrs. Humphries – lead teacher, Miss Langley – mentor teacher, Mr. Bright – mentor teacher, and myself have set milestones and will collect data to ensure that these are implemented successfully for our students. Academic Vocabulary and Test-Taking Strategies are embedded in our West Newton culture in all grade levels. Please join us for lunch at West Newton whenever you can and remember that we need a valid picture ID for all visitors. Mrs. Enright and Mrs. Mills are the friendly staff members who answer our phones, greet our visitors, and take care of everyone in so many different ways! Thank you for sharing your children with us each day.

With Tiger Pride,

Principal Susan Strube

Parents, the Art Supply List that was sent home is only if you are so inclined to donate to our art room. We do not expect you to purchase these items to be used in the art room, but we certainly do appreciate any and all donations of these items to support our art program for all students.

Students in grades 4-6 do need an Art Sketchbook and those can be purchased from our school bookstore for $2 or you could also purchase them at Meijer, Wal-Mart or any dollar store. Thank you so much!

A Note from the Nurse

Hello everyone!! For those of you I haven't met yet, I am the school nurse and will be taking great care of your kiddos this year. This will be my 3rd year here at West Newton!

For the first few months of the school year, I may be sending home letters/forms for various things I may need for your child. Please check your child's book bag and folders frequently, notes from me will always be in a concealed envelope.

Next week I will be sending home letters/forms regarding action care plans for those students who have specific medical needs during the school year. These forms will need to be filled out and returned to the clinic as soon as possible, so be on the look out! These are very important in order for me to give your child the best care possible! If you ever have any questions or concerns feel free to reach out to me ANYTIME!! Let's make this school year a great and healthy year!!
