Topic Sentence

A sentence that expresses the main idea of the paragraph in which it occurs.


Example: There are three reasons why Canada is one of the best countries in the world.

Grabber

Definition: is an opening sentence or several state ments that capture the reader Attention right off the bat-immediatley!


Example:Believe it or not, my 4th grade teacher has purple hair and a tattoo

Setting

Definition: The place or type of surroundings where something is positioned or where an event takes place.

Example: It was lovely setting for a home, secluded in wildly beautiful forested hills.

Rising Action

Definition: in a plot is a series of relevant incidents that create suspense, interest and tension in a narrative.

Example: A person was climbing a hill to achieve his goal.

Climax

Definition: is the term used to refer to the part of story or play where the tension or action reaches its highest part.

Example: One of my friends are gonna get eaten by sharks!

Falling Action

Definition: the part of a literary plot that occurs after the climax has been reached and the conflict has been resolved.

Example: Harry talks to Dumbledore in the infirmary, the banquet, and the train ride home.

Resolution

Definition: is part of the story's plot line occurs after the falling action and is typically where the story ends.

Example: And that's was the end of the story.

Edit

Definition: a change or correction made as a result of editing.

Example: Editing a narrative word in my essay.

Publish

Definition: to prepare and produce or to include.

Example: I'm going to publish this on my computer.

Conclusion

Definition: the end or finish of an event or process or a judgement or decision reached by reasoning.

Example: That was the end of my conclusion about that book.

Brain storming

Definition: to produce an idea or way of solving problem.

Example: I needed to brainstorm if i wanted to pass this test.

Body paragraph

Definition: is going to be about, supporting sentences that discuss the idea or ideas in the topic sentence.

Example: You wouldn't believe how beautiful it is outside.

Revise

Definition: is reread work done previously to improve one's knowledge of a subject, typically to prepare for an examination.

Example: In the light of what you told us, i think we should revise our plan.

Plan (story)

Definition: the plan, scheme, or main story of a literary or dramatic work, as a play, novel, or short story.

Example: I'm going to make a plan on this essay.

Outline

Definition: the essential features or main aspects of something under discussion:

Example: At the first meeting, we gave her only the outlines of the project.

Graphic organizer

Definition: is a communication tool that uses visual symbols to express knowledge, concepts, thoughts, or ideas, and the relationships between them.

Example: I'm gonna think my of ideas and organize it into this graph.

Descriptive language

Definition: uses images that appeal to the reader's senses, helping the reader to imagine how a subject looks, sounds, smells, taste, or feels.

Example: My mouth was burning like a hot pepper.

Plot development

Definition: Plot is a literary term used to describe the events that make up a story or the main part of a story.


Example: The plot of the story begins harry learns that Professor Snape is after the Sorcerer's Stone.

Sensory language narrative

Definition: is a way for a writer to help the reader see or connect with an image, description, action, or scene.

Example: There was a description on this piece of paper.

Rough Drafts

Definition: the first version of a piece of writing.

Example: The teacher requested rough drafts of the essay from the students.
