The Principal's Den
Thank you to all parents for helping make the first week of school such a success. Our Bobcat staff and the many members of the Keller ISD staff have worked hard to prepare our beautiful building and the classrooms for a successful first week. Our students have come to school excited, energetic and eager to learn. I have so many positive responses from parents and community members.
Like any new home that someone moves into, there are going to be several finishing touches that will be done. Our landscaping will start to go in and the flagpole will be installed soon. We are also waiting to have our marquee completed and finally our name proudly posted on the front of our building. I look forward to the possibilities that exist within our new facility!
Your student is truly amazing! Most of our kindergartners and all other students are already walking to the gym, cafeteria or their class on their own. We appreciate all of your help and support in allowing your child to make their way to the gym or cafeteria between 7:25 - 7:45 or to their classroom from 7:45 - 7:55 on their own. Parents, you are still welcome to walk your child to class this next week without checking into the front office. After the second week of school, we ask that you allow your child to walk to their classroom on their own. We are not saying you cannot walk your child to their classroom after the second week. You will just need to check in through the front office to receive a visitors tag.
I have created a new Sunset Valley YouTube channel that will house our campus videos and video updates from me. Please enjoy!
Bobcat Proud,
Kristen Eriksen

PBIS
PBIS is a decision making framework that guides selection, integration, and implementation of the best evidence-based academic and behavioral practices for improving important academic and behavior outcomes for all students. PBIS focuses on POSITIVE behaviors with clear expectations across a school campus. The goal is to be more proactive in preventing negative student behaviors.
Sunset Valley Bobcat PRIDE: Prepared Respectful Intentional Dedicated Encouraging
The key words used in PRIDE are the bedrock of our PBIS system at Sunset Valley. We systematically teach and acknowledge appropriate behaviors through clear expectations. PRIDE is referenced every day and provides consistency across our campus. Staff members will address positive and negative behaviors, while building a positive, flexible environment. Students will be rewarded with Bobcat Bucks from any staff member when they follow PRIDE. Our campus will provide various ways for students to spend Bobcat Bucks in the classroom and at school-wide celebrations.
Join us on September 8 from 6:00 - 6:30 to learn more about PBIS. This session is being offered in between the two parent orientation times.

Save the Date for the 17th Annual Run in the Dark ~ Saturday, September 17th!!
The Community Storehouse's 17th Annual Run in the Dark event is scheduled for September 17, 2016, at Alliance Town Center's Bluestem Park.
Each year, the event draws more and more runners participating in the one-mile fun run and 5K race. Whether you choose to become a sponsor, volunteer your time, or put together a team to run, you are helping at-risk children in the greater Keller community.
All proceeds from Run in the Dark go back to children in our area, providing essential services to prevent hunger and provide educational support, resources, and stability. There are more than 2,000 children locally who cannot afford school supplies; 3,000 local children cannot afford educational assistance; 7,000 local children cannot afford nutritional support; and more than 12,000 local children need the Community Storehouse.
Discounted rates are available to friends and families who sign up with their child's school. To register, visit www.RunInTheDarkDFW.com and register under the "Schools/Storehouse Cup" category. If you do not see Sunset Valley, it should be listed there soon. Registering through a Keller ISD school not only earns a discounted rate, but T-shirts and bibs will be delivered directly to the student's campus, making it even easier on parents.
The campus with the most runners will win the coveted "Storehouse Cup Trophy." This will be the ninth year for Community Storehouse to award the trophy to the school with the highest participation. There will again be two trophies awarded – one for Elementary/Intermediate and one for Middle/High Schools. A school team consists of children and adults who register under their school's name.
School Lunch Meal Prices
Federal regulations require that districts participating in the National School Lunch Program distribute revenues and costs equitably for all meals---free, reduced-price and paid. What this means is that KISD is not allowed to have local lunch prices that are lower than the reimbursable prices from the Federal Government. To remain compliant, Keller ISD is being required to increase the 2016-2017 school lunch meal prices for paid-eligible students:
- K thru 6th grade lunches will increase from $2.65 to $2.70 or 5 cents.
- 7th thru 12th grade lunches will increase from $2.75 to $2.85 or 10 cents.
