Make Summer Count by Learning How to Help Students Manage Their Behavior
Are you looking for tools to help your students learn how to manage their social and emotional behaviors? Check out these sessions being offered at Summer Seminar on May 29th-30th at BHS.
Zones of Regulation: Teaching Students to Self-Manage Their Emotions and Behavior – Room B-103 - Presenter: Tina Taylor
- NEW! In this session, we will survey the foundational concepts of Zones of Regulation and learn how to support students’ self-awareness and management of their own feelings and actions. We will explore and practice various strategies and tools designed to foster, self-awareness, self-control, and problem-solving.
- Getting off the Roller-coaster: De-escalating Disruptive Behavior – Room B-103 - Presenters: Matthew Nelson and Rick Phillips
- NEW! CPI’s Nonviolent Crisis Intervention focuses on early intervention and nonphysical methods for preventing or managing disruptive behavior. This session will help organize our thinking about how behavior escalates, ways to respond appropriately during the moments leading up to possible chaos, and how to disengage to if behavior becomes physical.
Summer Learning to Support Units of Study Reading and Writing
We have some great summer learning opportunities available to us. Many of you have expressed a desire to launch Units of Study Reading and Writing next year. Check out these sessions being offered during Summer Seminar May 29th and 30th at Braswell High School.
Unpacking the Lucy Calkins Units of Study K-5 Room A-104 - Presenters: Katie Payne and Lauren Willison (Repeated May 30th 2:15 - 3:45)
- In this session we will dive into the components of a Lucy Calkins Unit of Study and practice how to break down one unit to gain a deeper understanding before implementation.
- Readers/Writers Workshop K-2 Room A-105 Presenters: Ashley Jones and Kate Wright
- In this session we will learn about implementing Reader’s and Writer’s workshop in the Kindergarten through 2nd grade classroom. You’ll leave this day knowing how to make the most of your mini-lesson, great conferring strategies, and how to balance both guided reading and strategy groupings. There will also be make and takes! Come and join the fun!

TTESS Updates
Probationary End of Year Reports Completed (Eduphoria) no later than March 29, 2018
Completed T-TESS summative reports include summative conferences and electronic signatures for the teacher and evaluator.
Note timelines for late hires: ALL T-TESS End of year Reports must be completed no later than April 13, 2018
(Late hires are teachers hired after October 1, 2017)
ALL Remaining Teacher Self-Assessment II: Goal Reflection no later than April 13, 2018
And Professional Development Plan Due (Or at least two weeks before End of Year Conference)
ALL teachers must submit TSR II and PD plan regardless of eligibility to waive T-TESS Annual Appraisal
ALL Remaining End of Year Conferences Completed no later than April 30, 2018
Written summative annual appraisal report must be summited to teacher w/in 10 working days of end of year conference, and w/in 15 working days of last day of instruction.
Boosterthon Fun Run Update
We are getting off to a slow start towards reaching our fundraising goal. We want you to get Interactive Projectors that will make your white boards function like SMART boards. How can you increase participation?
- Attend a portion of your grade level's team huddle and celebrate with your kids.
- Give your kids incentives to participate in getting pledges.
- Take a picture of a team huddle and send it to your parents to remind them that our run is on Friday and pledges are due.
- Join Jana Tutor and Karen Flusche by getting pledges and participating in the fun run.
- Wear Boosterthon shirts and jeans all week to promote the run.
- Add falcons who may need to be 'adopted' to our Adopt a Falcon form.

How do you sign up? You don't need to sign up. Simply plan your learning pathway and show up early at BHS to secure your spot in the classes you wish to attend as each class is limited to 25 participants. Some classes are offered more than once so this may help you plan your pathway more effectively.
How will you prove you've attended sessions and how will you share your learning with Kim and me? Simply complete the Summer Learning Certificate and submit it to us.
What if I've already signed up for TIA, but I'd rather attend Summer Seminar? It's not too late to change your plans. Simply click on the Summer Learning form and change your learning plan.
