End Of Term Newsletter
Spring term 2022
Weekly update
Dear parents and carers,
Another term has flown by on both campuses and there's so much to celebrate in our School community. We have captured some fantastic moments on camera so will use this newsletter as an opportunity to share some of these pictures with you.
Sherwood Park Campus enjoyed their Easter Service at St Mary’s Church on Monday. We had our former Deputy Head Sue with us; helping Frankie with the signing at the front. We sang lots of songs and decorated the cross with beautiful Easter garlands. Well done to all the pupils for managing the church really well! Sherwood Hill enjoyed their service at The Good Shepphard Church in Carshalton Beeches. There was plenty of singing, signing and dancing from all students and staff who had a wonderful time.
We say Goodbye to Frankie who is one of our Senior Teaching Assistant’s. She has worked at the school for over 20 years in a variety of different roles. She has brought into the school lots of Music and Singing opportunities for our pupils, such as Voice in a Million, Open Orchestras and Choir. She has supported staff with signing and ensured school assemblies and special events always include signing. She has worked all over the school with different groups of pupils and we will miss her a lot, but wish her all the best in her new adventures!
Sherwood Hill - Spring Term
At Sherwood Hill campus we have enjoyed a term filled with exciting opportunities for all of the children. With the gradual lifting of some COVID restrictions community access has been broadened and children have had access to a range of activities. We have celebrated National Careers Week, Red Nose Day, World Book Day amongst many other exciting events. What I have really enjoyed seeing is the whole School come together for recent events such as Gaming for Ukraine and our Easter Church visit. It has been joyful to see all of the children able to access these events together. We recently held our citizenship assembly where we were able to come together to celebrate the children's achievements. I want to take this opportunity to thank all our wonderful staff, parents and carers for all their hard work and dedication to our children, It has certainly been a term to remember!

Sherwood Park – Spring Term
Well that’s gone fast! What a great Spring term we have all had at the Sherwood Park campus. We have enjoyed a Science Theme Day where pupils visited lots of different classrooms and tried out fascinating experiments. We got to gunge David in the comic relief assembly and raised over £370. The pupils took part in challenges which helped to raise lots of money. Well done to the Voice in a Million choir who sang at Wembley with thousands of pupils from other schools – what an achievement! Well done to all the staff for their continued hard work and commitment this term, wishing you all a restful Easter. And well done to all of our parents, for continuing to show your support for the school and for your children and we look forward to seeing more of you after the holidays.

This term we have learnt about colours. We have had opportunities to explore colours through art and paint, sensory messy play exploration where we have experienced mixing colours to create new ones and through sensory cookery activities where we had explored the colours of different fruits and vegetables.
We also had fun participating in water play activities and loved to share reading sensory stories such as We going on a bear hunt and Pete the cat has white shoes where everyone liked the fake snow and the colours.
Everyone in Mint class have work so hard to successfully achieve their outcomes this term and I am sure we will continue to make steady progress next year.
Our Citizen of the term certificate is for George who has massively improvement on his autonomy around living care tasks. He has been preparing his snacks and transitioning to other rooms in the school.
Mint team class wish you a Happy Easter.
Iris class have enjoyed Easter activities this week such as making chocolate Easter nests this week.
Well done for Declan for being our citizen of the term!
Lavender has had a celebratory week marking the end of Spring Term and Easter. We started the week by creating colourful Easter baskets. Then, we joined the school community for an uplifting Easter Service filled with singing, dancing and reflection. We were delighted to join the Upper School assembly and discover the inspiring students awarded Citizen of the Term. Well done to everybody in Lavender for your great listening this week. Have a wonderful break! Happy Easter!
Have a lovely break,
What a lovely term we have had in Lime class and this term we have really enjoying accessing more of our local community. Some of us have been to the park each week, horse riding and our favourite activity has been swimming! We have been looking at different colours each week and in creativity have explored different shades and textures and have enjoyed making different pieces of artwork to represent each colour. We have also been engaging so well with our weekly music therapy and our favourite instrument is the guitar and everyone enjoys strumming the strings. This week in Lime class we have been exploring Easter and one of our favourite activities was our Easter Egg Hunt - we also loved eating some chocolate after! Our celebration star goes to every pupil; Ethan, Jesse-Tyler, Zaid, Ibrahim, Rachel and Kishan for working so hard over the last term. Have a fantastic Easter everyone!
This week Lilac class have been celebrating our Citizen of the term Josh! Josh has worked really hard at improving his confidence when in the community. This week at Beddington park café Josh ordered his hot chocolate independently, we are all very proud of you Josh! Lilac class have also been enjoying leisure time with their peers from other classes, we spent time in violet class having a pamper session and we held a cinema afternoon where all post 16 classes had the chance to watch Zog and interacted with each other! Happy Easter everyone!
This week in Violet class we have had lots of fun engaging in a variety of play activities, building positive peer relationships during trips to the park and playing games on the WIii and arcade games. The students have enjoyed creating Easter crafts such as baskets, chocolate rice crispy cakes and cards. I am very proud of all of their achievements this term, and I look forward to seeing how much more they flourish in the summer term.
Have a wonderful Easter break to you all
Olive class have had a fun week this week and have concentrated on Easter activities. We have made some lovely Easter art and chocolate nests. We had a great swimming session on Monday and a fun music session on Wednesday. We have had a busy and productive term and all worked hard on our PLP targets and have made some fantastic progress. We are looking forward to being able to go out to the park in the summer term. Our citizen of the term is Samantha for building some lovely relationships with both staff and peers and for working hard on her sharing, well done Samantha. Have a lovely Easter.
This week Sapphire class have enjoyed cooking making pitta pizza, and chocolate nests in relation to Easter. They have also been swimming and for a walk to the park. We've celebrated 2 new achievements firstly Charlie went into Sutton on public transport to buy himself a new pair of sunglasses, which is amazing and secondly Tobey was nominated citizen of the term for being a good friend and for settling really well into his routine at school. All our students have worked very hard this term and we are so proud of all of them. Well done Sapphire class.
Thistle/Ocean Class had a really amazing Spring term with so many achievements. Transitions into College have begun for Charlie and Frazer who are leaving school this year and we are so excited to be part of this journey with them. Junayd got himself a volunteering job working in a cafe on Tuesdays which is helping him reach his destination of becoming a chef when he is older. Reece has grown massively in his confidence, particularly in physical fitness. He enjoys going to the gym and using the exercise machines, learning what it means to be healthy. Joshua has been working very hard at his work experience as a Habitat Manager (gardening) at the Ecology Centre, although this has been difficult for him at times, he has communicated using a Talking Mat what his barriers are and identified that sometimes he doesn't like the cold weather. This is really helpful when looking at his Vocational Profile and preferences for future employment. Ben has made great progress with accessing the community safely, now he is using visuals to locate items within a supermarket such as bread or milk and paying for these with minimal adult help. Josh I has been accessing a bespoke curriculum where he prepares for life after school in July. He is now attending some activities both in the family home and in the community with support from both curriculum and the well-being team. Finally after two years Sam has begun to use public transport again and his face says it all, smiles from ear to ear! He has been really enjoying using the bus once/twice a week to go to Asda or the park.
Well done to all of you and thank you to my team and therapists for helping us make these achievements possible! Have a lovely Easter everyone - Steve.

Park Campus
This term Poppy Class have been learning about Superheroes. They have really loved the topic and enjoyed reading the book Supertato, sequencing the story acting out the plot using real vegetable puppets. The class became superheroes themselves and made capes and masks in art. In functional numeracy we have been learning the value of money and have been practicing paying for items in our class role-play shop and on our weekly visit to Asda. For our cooking this term we have been learning to make scrambled eggs and beans on toast, they have all been following the sequence and have used their thinking and problem solving skills to locate the ingredients and equipment independently and some have even begun to use the microwave independently. We finished off the term by creating beautiful Easter cards and joining Marigold Class for an Easter egg hunt in the playground.
Wow what a term we had some many fantastic moments we really developed as a class, the friendships, the laughter and of course the learning has created lovely memories. This term the class have loved the Topic stories. We had three different level books, Scribble Monster, where the learner engaged in keeping parts of the story and developed anticipation and the ability to mark make alongside the story and choose a picture she wants it to match. The Supertao group loved learning the sequence of the story and exploring their AAC to practice describing what would happen next. The last book was all about a girl called Mia who discovered she had superpowers. The Girls found this relatable and inspiring that they made their own character, event and baddies... they also began to work on creative writing pieces. So as you can see this is only our communication sessions, we have also had many experiences such as comic relief, careers week, Voice in a million for some pupils, lead assemblies, Had mock interviews and received the jobs and we been accessing Asda to get our cooking bits, the Girls have loved making cookies, flapjack, unicorn cookie dough and Easter egg cheesecake. So all I can say is Marigold class myself and the rest of the staff are so proud of how you all have been this term and have really enjoyed it. Well done! Have a well earned break and the start of the week iiiiissss All of you ! we can't not possible choose.
WHAT A FANTASTIC TERM! Our topic was "Tutti Frutti" and we've been working on healthy and "unhealthy" eating. We've done lots of cooking like pizzas and smoothies and we've worked on what is good for us and what is less good. We've read a few cooking books like "Daniel tries new food" and "Pancake, Pancake" and worked very hard on our phonics and writing. Friendships between the pupils have continued to develop, and it's been so nice seeing them interacting and playing together. All of the students have been amazing. DANIEL is calmer and he's using his device more. ROMARI has come out of his shell and his confidence has grown so much. OSCAR has been much happier, chattier and playing more with his friends. HENRY, as sweet as always, has been taking care of everyone. GEORGE is a chatterbox and a happy child in school. IBRAHEEM is coming back to school slowly and settling very well. RONNIE has been calmer and happier and his mood throughout the day has been much better. And ABIGAIL, the princess of the class, has been very well looked after by all her friends.
We wish you an amazing break and see you in Summer term!
Tulip Class have had a fantastic term learning about "Keeping Safe". We have explored ways to keep ourselves safe, how we ask for help and people who can help us. Our sensory cookery has been around healthy eating and what is good for our bodies. We have enjoyed lots of physical activities like rough and tumble, music and movement, physiotherapy, swimming, trampolining, yoga and dance. In art we explored cubism and collages and participated in making different crafts of people who help us. We have learnt about having good hygiene, road safety and dangers and hazards in the class and outside. Our sensory story this term was called 'Something special' which is a story about the special qualities we have that we can share with others in order to help them. Here are some of the special qualities we have shown this term. Liam has been great at opening containers and shows perseverance and problem solving to work out how to get into them. Jayden has been terrific at beginning to use his eye gaze to request what he wants using hi tech and low tech PODD pages. Jeysha has been fantastic at responding to different transitional cues without additional prompting from an adult. Jack has shown superb physical abilities of reaching to engage with other peers when in the playground or out of his chair and walking using his walker. Great achievements made by everyone. Tulip class wish you all a very Happy Easter!
This term Orchid Class have been learning about Animals. They have been reading the story 'Dear Zoo' and learning the Makaton signs for each of the animals. They have also been learning about the sounds that animals make.
During our Pre-writing sessions they have been imitating gross motor actions such as lines and circles. They have enjoyed participating in our 'under the sea' dance sessions, copying some simple dance moves and having lots of opportunities to be creative and develop their own moves and dance styles at the 'Fish Disco'.
This term the children have really demonstrated a growing sense of self. They have been asserting their likes, dislikes, choices, decisions and ideas. We are so proud of them.
Vasyl from Sycamore has prepared a special announcement for their class - do have a look at the picture below!!
Bamboo class this term have continued our Community Contribution projects. Showcasing our creative skills and methods through art pieces provided for St Marys Church Beddington and Wallington Grammar Boys School.
This term Wallington Grammar School have continued their volunteering in certain Class's in the school. The Bamboo learners have taught our volunteers about themselves and how learning is accessed, taking the role of supportive and enthusiastic role models/teachers for the volunteers. As a result our volunteers have thrived and will be returning in the summer term.
Bamboo continues to establish community Links, one gained from our positive trip to Tilgate in Crawley, we have offered our services to develop their resources and experiences in increased multisensory methods.
Well done class Bamboo

This term Daisy Class have been learning about Superhero's and what they do. Among other things, we made a comic strip featuring ourselves and made our own capes. We also learnt about real life superhero's like doctors and nurses. We did role play and took turns at being the doctors and nurses and then being the patient, great fun. We also made healthy biscuits, and enjoyed experiencing the different ingredients, by feel, smell and taste and then got to take them home. When the weather was nice we managed to get out to the local park a few times for a walk. We looked at the trees and flowers and chatted to the some of the public and got introduced to their dogs. We also worked hard on our physio to keep fit and well. Ending with the Easter Service in St Marys Church which is always looked forward too. All in all a busy Spring Term.
