Message from the 6th Grade Principal
Thunderhawk Families!
We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our students need support from both the home and school. We look forward to building a strong partnership with you to make a lasting impact in your student's education. Here are some simple starting points to get the school year off to a GREAT start:
- ENCOURAGE your student to attend school daily and arrive on time (doors open at 7:10a with school starting at 7:40a)
- ENCOURAGE your student to share the school experience with you so that you are aware of their school life.
- ENCOURAGE your student to inform you or us if they need help in any subject or with friends in their class.
- ENCOURAGE your student to dream about what they want from life as they prepare for this next school year.

Science
Next week in Science students will continue to explore molecular motion. We will be focusing on how the motion changes based on the state of matter. We will have a Unit 1 test during Week 4 on Thursday, September 14th. A study guide will be available next week and can be found in the Week 3 At A Glance if students want to begin preparing for the test. We will review for the test the day before we take it.

English
We have jumped into our novel Freak the Mighty. As we read this week we will be looking out for literary devices such as:
Flashback
Onomatopoeia
Simile
Metaphor
We will analyze how the author uses these devices to enhance the narrative. Question to ask your student:
Can you come up with a simile to describe middle school?
*Hint* Simile is a comparison using like or as.
