Definition: the exclusive legal right, given to an originator or an assignee to print, publish, perform, film, or record literary, artistic, or musical material, and to authorize others to do the same.

Fair Use

Definition: (in US copyright law) the doctrine that brief excerpts of copyright material may, under certain circumstances, be quoted verbatim for purposes such as criticism, news reporting, teaching, and research, without the need for permission from or payment to the copyright holder.

My Own Words: You can use quotes, ect. without having to ask for permission to use it.


Definition: the unauthorized use or reproduction of another's work.

My Own Words: You don't have approval to use another's work.


Definition: the practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own.

My Own Words: Practicing taking someones work, and saying they made it.

Digital Footprint

Definition: On the Internet a digital footprint is the word used to describe the trail, traces or "footprints" that people leave online.
