Superintendent's Message
Dear LPOSD Families,
Thank you for your patience as we work through the pre-registration process in our new student information system. If you have not pre-registered your child(ren), please do so ASAP. I know it seems cumbersome, but we are trying to get our LPOSD students pre-registered before the new Open Enrollment law, passed by the Idaho Legislature this spring, allows out-of-district families to enroll their students in our district. It is VERY important we get your child(ren)’s spot SAVED. If you have any questions, please review the pre-registration document to help you navigate this new process.
It is super important to me that I collect parent feedback each year so we can celebrate our strengths and use your feedback to address areas in need of improvement. This is a very short survey - it will take you less than five minutes to complete. Please click HERE and complete the survey before you read any farther in this month’s LOOP 💗 - Thank you, bwm

Serve on a Committee to Help Shape the Future of LPOSD Facilities!
On our recently adopted Strategic Plan, voters consistently ranked "Facilities" in their top 3 priorities to be addressed in the coming years. Addressing facilities requires community support and input. Therefore, LPOSD is seeking parents and patrons to serve on the Long Range Facility Planning Committee (LRFPC) to help create a plan for LPOSD's 538,258 square feet of building and 150 acres of district property! Would you consider completing an application to serve on the Long Range Facility Planning Committee?
New This Year! Required Pre-Registration
All LPOSD families are being asked to complete Pre-Registration through the PowerSchool Parent Portal to notify your child's school of future enrollment.
In order to make this as clear as possible for families, all of the instructions can be found in one spot! Just click the button below!
Thank your help in completing this process.

All Star Olympics Hosted at Sandpoint High School
General education students do not always have opportunities to interact regularly with students in the Life Skills program. Teacher Kristin Storebo explains that the annual All Star Olympics event “makes our Life Skills students feel like they are a part of our school culture as much as anyone else.” Her students who compete walk away feeling celebrated! They “see what they are capable of, and their peers get to see them in a really unique light...where they just shine!" The event, which took place at SHS on May 24 in partnership with our region's local chapter of the Special Olympics, couldn't happen without the team behind it. This team includes: LPOSD Physical Therapist Erin McLure, Mary Imaz and the SHS Student Council, Joy Jansen, Meredith Evensen-Lynch, Kristin Storebo, and the students and parents who show up in full support of the competitors to cheer them on!
Sandpoint High School Seniors Awarded $263,000 in Scholarships!
We say it all of the time, but we want to shout it from the rooftops! Our community is so generous! Thank you to the donors who make Scholarship Nights happen at our LPOSD high schools!
63 current SHS seniors submitted over 800 applications for 84 different scholarships! On the night of May 23, $263,000 was awarded to the SHS Class of 2023 at the annual "Scholarship Night" event! This does not include the generosity of donors who have contributed to senior scholarship winners at LPOHS, Clark Fork High School, or our local charter school! (Photo courtesy of SHS)
Lake Pend Oreille High School Forestry Students Place 2nd
15 LPOHS students were among more than 300 students who attended the annual Idaho State Forestry Contest held on Monday, May 15 at Farragut State Park. Participating students compete as either individuals or in teams of four, testing their skills in ten categories including: log scaling, timber cruising, tree and plant identification, map reading, tree health, etc. One team of four from LPOHS placed second overall in the senior division! Their teacher, Brenda Woodward, reported that the placing team consisted of Tallulah Stafford, Kyler Harrison, Solace Peterson, and Kailynn Gingrich. Woodward said of their 2nd place finish: "it is a particularly impressive feat given that the students just started learning the material at the end of January and some of their competitors return year after year." Congratulations Lake Pend Oreille High School!

Farmin Stidwell 4th Graders Attend "Let's Go Fishing" Field Trip!
Thank you Sara Garcia at the Bonner Soil and Water Conservation District for organizing this day of fishing for 4th grade students! Thanks also to the local organizations who hosted stations for kids, including: The Idaho Department of Lands Firefighters, Trout Unlimited, Idaho Fish and Game, and Idaho Department of Parks and Rec. Students learned how to fish with a reel, fly fish, and practice fire safety! Then, students participated in a nature scavenger hunt! What a fun day!

LPOSD Lit Cadre Attends Dyslexia Training
During the week of May 15, the LPOSD "Lit Cadre" (made up of 35 passionate educators and para educators from every school in the district), along with our administrative team, received thorough Pathways to Reading dyslexia training. Their training was a glimpse of what our entire district staff (K-12) will learn this fall as part of our district-level training plan. Lisa McElroy, LPOSD's new "Literacy Lead" explains, "through a series of simulations and experiences within this training, we hope to provide our district staff with the knowledge, tools, and coaching to support struggling students. The Lit Cadre and Pathways to Reading (PTR) program will allow teachers to further support students in grades 3 and above with the commitment that EVERYONE graduates LPOSD as a reader."
