The Wang Eagle
Week of Sept. 11th, 2023
A Fresh Start
There have been many changes this year at the Wang, including at the top. Hi! As Principal, I'm really excited to work with all of the Wang community in the years to come - this is an outstanding school with dedicated educators and great kids and I know that we can continue to return to a high standard, both in the classroom and out!
Speaking of the changes, its important to meet all of your child's teachers this upcoming week at our Ice Cream Social/Open House. It is scheduled for Wednesday, September 13th from 5-7 pm and putting your child's teachers names to their faces is vital to form strong connections throughout the year.
We hope you are enjoying the new electronic sign outside! We are grateful to all the work Mr. Stahl and the city did to get this for the Wang School and look for all kinds of important announcements throughout the year as you pass by on West Meadow Road!
As the students say, LET'S GOOOOO!!!!

We hope to see you at our meetings this year.
One Chip Challenge - NOT ALLOWED
I had sent this email on Wednesday afternoon - please do not allow your children to bring these "One Chip Challenge" containers to our school as it is highly dangerous.
Good afternoon Wang Fam!
Sometimes, there are social media trends that our students want to emulate and one has found its way into our school and I want to warn all of you about this dangerous "One Chip Challenge." The following is taken from the National Poison Control website:
The Paqui One Chip Challenge is a social media challenge promoted by Paqui, a tortilla chip company. Paqui sells small containers, each containing one spicy chip and the label “One Chip Challenge”. The challenge involves eating the single spicy tortilla chip, then waiting as long as possible before eating or drinking anything else. The Paqui website challenges people to wait as long as possible after chip consumption, characterizing those who can last a full hour without eating or drinking as “invincible” (people who eat or drink a minute after eating the chip are dismissed as being “powerless”). Participants in this challenge are also encouraged to post their reactions on social media.
Today, three Wang students have visited the nurse's office due to ingesting this chip and then spreading the remnants on their face or neck, resulting in rashes. The chemical in the chip, capsaicin, is found in chili peppers but can be synthesized, put on this chip and made much more potent that results in these reactions.
Here is a link from the National Poison Control Center with more information:
https://www.poison.org/articles/is-the-one-chip-challenge-dangerous
From here on out, if staff sees these chips in the building, they will be confiscated and thrown away to prevent any more reactions and students could be subject to discipline if they bring them in to give to friends.
