Atoms Station 3

J.J. Thomson

J.J Thomson was the person who "invented" the electron in 1897.
The electron's purpose in an atom is to create a negative charge, which helps balance the charge of the atom. Even thought this part of the atom does a lot, it is actually 1,000 times smaller than the proton! You also might have guess that this is the lightest part of an atom. This also moves at the speed of light on the orbital path.
