Mickey Mouse Day!
Happy birthday Mickey Mouse!
Steamboat Willie
Although November 18 is not the day Mickey Mouse was created, it is still considered his birthday. This is because it was the day the cartoon Steamboat Willie came out; the first animated cartoon with synchronized sound. Steamboat Willie was Mickey's third short. It also included the first appearance of Minnie.
Why should you celebrate this day?
Mickey Mouse is popular all over the world. From Tokyo to New York City, most people can recognize the mouse that has stayed popular through generations. Walt DIsney credited him in one of Walt's most famous quotes about his sucessful career: "I only hope that we never lose sight of one thing- that it was all started by a mouse." On his 50th anniversary on November 18, 1978, Mickey even became the first cartoon character to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and yet there is still no official holiday to celebrate him. I believe that Mickey Mouse Day should become a national holiday to recognize the Disney character that is loved by so many. Join me in celebrating Mickey Mouse Day annually on November 18!
