Groundhog Day
Ryan's Corner
By: Ryan Lord
Today is that one day of the year we all are hoping to hear that spring will start soon. Groundhog Day marks the midway point between winter and spring. It started from the Christian holiday of Candlemas. This day's weather would determine how many weeks of winter might be left.
The first Groundhog Day was celebrated on February 2, 1887 in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. As tradition goes, the groundhog emerges from his hole after a long winter of sleep to look for his shadow. If he sees his shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter and he will return into his hole. If he does not see his shadow, he will stay above ground and spring is on its way. Punxsutawney Phil is the groundhog that we all tune in to watch, even though he is only right 40% of the time!
This morning, Punxsutawney Phil predicted that there will be 6 more weeks of winter, but his friend Chuck (over in Staten Island) predicted that spring is on its way, so no matter which one is right, we know that winter is not too far from being over.

CHIEFS RECAP!
By: Andrew Wilson
The Kansas City Chiefs had a outstanding record this season. With 12 wins and 4 losses total, they went 6-0 inside the conference. That is amazing! The team made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs where they lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers, a very well built team.
The Chiefs were ranked 8th in the National Football League. They were ranked 1st in punt returns because of their star punt returner, Tyreek Hill. Marcus Peters, the Chiefs' safety, had 6 interceptions which was a tie for 2nd most in the league. Eric Fisher, left tackle, Travis Kelce, tight end, and Alex Smith, quarterback, were all elected to the 2017 Pro Bowl which is also known as the NFL All Star Game. Alex Smith and Travis Kelce both had touchdowns in the Pro Bowl. Travis Kelce was chosen as Pro Bowl MVP.
The Chiefs have another good chance at the playoffs next year, but their problem is that they always choke in the playoffs! The debate becomes...Is it the coach or the quarterback?
My opinion? The Chiefs need a new quarterback. I am shocked that he chosen for the Pro Bowl. He could improve by scrambling more and being able to throw into the pocket. They have a well-built offense but need to do better in the quarterback position...definitely during the NFL playoffs. With that change, the Chiefs become 2018 contenders!
