Gods and Generals
Gods and Generals is about the American Civil War. This movie is about a man who leaves his family and career behind Col. Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain (Jeff Daniels) to become one of the Union's greatest military minds. Gen. Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson (Stephen Lang) was, like Chamberlain, a man of great religious faith who served in the defense of the Confederacy. And Gen. Robert E. Lee (Robert Duvall), who led the Confederate army, was a man who was forced to choose between his loyalty to the United States and his love of the Southern states where he was born and raised.
The film is about the first formal unit of the Union Army during the American Civil War to be made up entirely of African-American men, as told from the point of view of Colonel Shaw, its white commanding officer. They were the first unit of what became known as the United States Colored Troops and known for their heroic actions at Fort Wagner
Personal Take Away
I actually learned a lot about the Civil War. It was the bloodiest war of them all. It went all the way from 1861-1865. More than 620,000 were killed along with millions of injuries.
