U.S,S Maine Explosion
At 9:40pm on February 15, 1898, the battleship U.S.S. Maine exploded in Havana Harbor, killing 268 men and shocking the American populace.The De Lome letter was written to McKinley which called him weak, which was a factor to the war. This made many Americans mad and pushed them to the decision of them fighting.
San Juan Hill Battle
The Battle of San Juan Hill, also known as the battle for the San Juan Heights, was a decisive battle of the Spanish–American War. The San Juan heights was a north-south running elevation about two kilometers east of Santiago de Cuba, Cuba. 5,000 Americans died at this battle.Wood created the rough riders who were cowboys who fought this war. US was successful in these attacks.
Battle in Cuba
Cuba fought between Spain and the United States on July 3, 1898, was one of the key naval engagements of the Spanish–American War, which resulted in the destruction of the Spanish Navy's Caribbean Squadron.Cubans launched a surprise attack against Spanish forces, fading to the countryside. The U.S. remained neutral throughout this battle. By 1898, one third of Cuba's population had been forcibly sent into the concentration camps. The letter was not 100% true because the leader Weyler actually was a very rude, mean person. The picture show him as a murderer and he put people into re concentration camps. Over 400,000 Cubans died as a result of the Spanish Reconcentration Policy. They only lasted a few months but they were very brutal.More people joined in on believing the newspaper since they made the story's seem way different then they suppose to do.

In this cartoon, William Bryan wanted the islands to be independent McKinley demanded American Control in order to keep order. The Platt amendment let America interfere with Cuba.The anti- imperialist league didn't allow establishment on colonies. Treaty of Paris eventually ended the war.
