Staff Spotlight - Rachelle Smiley

Rachelle has been with us since our very first year, and she works with our Kinder students at the Wildomar Center in CA. Rachelle shares.....

I have been in education since 2003. I have worked with every age of students from 2 year olds- high school. I absolutely love teaching kindergarten, especially at this time of year. Students are beginning to demonstrate progress and their excitement for the holidays is contagious!

I live in Temecula, CA, with my husband Chris, a 2nd/3rd grade teacher. We have 2 kids, a 10 year- old named Jack and a 7 year –old daughter named Kaya. We are consumed with kid sports outside of work. I am my son’s team mom for his baseball team, and my daughter is in competitive cheer. We love to everything and every day is something different, but our absolute favorite thing to do is camp at the beach! Play in the waves during the day and roast marshmallows at night. Doesn’t get much better than that!

We appreciate all that you do Rachelle!

Mercury Sunshine!

Let me know of any concerns or celebrations within our Mercury family!

Club Corner

Middle/High School Environmental Club:
These students are beginning to work on a "garbage pizza" to show all the garbage they throw away and to recognize some items that could be recycled. Stay tuned for picture of the finished products in December!

High School Art Club:
Art Club students recently studied the "Op Art" movement. The word "Op" stands for optical and refers to a technique where artists try to create 3-dimensional designs on a 2-dimensional surface.

Check out this phenomenal design by High School artist Ashley Holden.

TEACHER TIP OF THE WEEK!

Are you ready to flip? Take a look at this video and begin to brainstorm ways to incorporate something like this in your online classroom. Share your ideas by going to the Teacher Resource Center and posting in the "Flipped Classroom" discussion board."

The teacher then says to the class:
“What shall I do to correct this?”

One student replies: “Get a boyfriend.”
