The Roaring Twenties was an economic boom period that had a positive on the daily lives of many (but not all Americans ). New technologies such as the automobile , airplanes , radio, and new appliances improved peoples' lives. However, such as sharecroppers, farmers, and underpaid factory workers were not able to enjoy this rising standard of living.
Prohibition
The three effects for prohibition were bootleggers, wood alcohol , and speakeasies .
Bootleggers
Bootleggers brought alcohol made for other countries into United States, or they made their own alcohol.
Speakeasies
Speakeasies, illegal places where people drank alcohol . Competition for business with the speakeasies sometimes led to violent clashes among bootleggers.
Wood alcohol
Wood alcohol could make people go blind , and even killed people.

Jazz began among African American musicians in New Orleans , Louisiana.
Bessie Smith
Bessie is a singer . She and Louis Armstrong song a song called "St. Louis Blues."

Louis was another famous jazz musicians. His cheeks puffed out when he played the trumpet.

The 19th Amendment was passed in 1920 giving all the women the right to vote. It was a result of the contribution women made during the Great War.
Harlem Reneaissance
Harlem New York used writing , music, and painting to share their ideas and feelings about life. The period when these works were created is known as the Harlem Reneaissance. They wanted to end to discrimination , or unfair treatment, of African Americans.

Mass Media helped make adds. People through out the country started buying the same product that were advertised on the radio . Song instantly became popular across the entire nation. Through the power of mass media, a common American culture began to take shape.
