Gingerbread Men
To wrap up our gingerbread unit, the kindergartners did this art project (hanging in the hallway). You'll notice the scarf has a pattern along with the outside as well. This ties in with what we are doing in math as well!
Today we also went on a gingerbread hunt...we couldn't catch him or his sister, but they both left us some tasty Eileen's treats! :)
Stages Theatre
Field trip permission slips are due on Monday, December 16th along with the $25 fee for two field trips, this includes bussing. Why do we need this information and fee so early? Cost of tickets needs to be given to Stages before we leave for winter break!
Winter Party
An email will be coming home today or Monday if you indicated you'd like to volunteer in our classroom or bring an item or two for our class. Thank you!
What we learned
Take a look into our class
Reading:
- It was a such a fun week as we did a combination of reading and theme to feature the infamous Gingerbread Man! In reading, we worked on making predictions, retelling the original story (we made a retell book that was sent home Wednesday) and identifying the story elements.
- We read variations of the story with different plots (the cowboy, girl, pirates, etc.) and compared and contrasted between the original. We also created our own gingerbread man. These are hanging in the hallway for all to enjoy (see picture above).
- Today we also went searching for the gingerbread man and his sister throughout the school. They were too quick for us. Maybe we will finally get them next year!
Writing:
- I began to model adding in the WHEN (yesterday, last night, last weekend, today, etc.) portion to our writing; kinders will do this independently next week.
- Kinders continue to practice dot and say on their own and to extend their sentences.
- I also modeled finding HFW in our writing using a yellow highlighter. The expectation is to spell these words correctly with help from our word wall!
Phonics:
- Poem: Little Jack Horner
- New HFWs: he, his
- Focus: hearing MIDDLE sounds in CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words; identifying vowels versus consonants; discussion surrounded every word having a vowel; using "eagle eye" (looking at pictures to give us clues) and "lips the fish" (getting one's mouth ready to identify the beginning sound) to identify unknown words
- **Snap cards for HFW 25-50 were sent home in round trip folders this week.
Math:
- Kindergartners worked to extend, create and identify (ABAB, AAB, ABC, etc.) patterns.
- We also worked hard on counting backwards from 20! The teens can be tricky as we count backwards from 14-10.
