Wrapping it Up - From the Principal’s Desk
I cannot believe that I am sending out the final newsletter of the year! It feels like yesterday that I was writing to you about how excited we were to greet the students and get the new school year started, and now, whether we are ready or not, we must wrap up another school year and say goodbye to our students for the summer and to our fifth graders as they move on to the next step on their academic journey.
I want to take this opportunity to thank the WB/GG PTA for doing such a fantastic job of running social events and fundraisers all for the children of our school. The efforts of our amazing PTA Board, Tracy Kellner, Heather Gunlogson, Karyn Hurley, Kolla Fass, and Deb Kloet along with the many committee chairs and volunteers who worked with them – have contributed to another most successful year! Parents and families play such an important role in the education of our children, so thank you to each and every one of you for your support and involvement at Glen Grove! Our partnership is foundational to a successful school year.
It is at this time of the year that we also pause to reflect and celebrate the hard work, dedication, and contributions of the amazing teachers at Glen Grove. Their complete commitment to the academic and social-emotional wellbeing of our students can be seen on a daily basis in the thought, care, and innovation they put into planning, preparing, and implementing their lessons and in the nurturing environment they establish.
Finally, we are so proud of the growth ALL of our students have shown. As our “graduating” fifth graders get ready to move on to middle school, we would like them to know that we will miss them and wish them the best of luck. They look completely different from the little second graders who joined us at the start of 3rd grade, and it has been such a pleasure to get to know each and every one of them! We are confident that we have prepared them well and hope that they will carry with them fond memories of Glen Grove School!
I end this note with a most sincere thank you for trusting us with your children. We have completely enjoyed working and learning with them this year, and it has been an honor for me to serve as your principal.
Make sure to watch for our summer newsletter to arrive via email the week of July 29th, and please have a most wonderful, safe and relaxing summer vacation!

News From the LRC
Due Date
Overdue books can still be dropped off or paid for in the office. The office will be open during regular school hours Monday, June 10 through Thursday and on the two Fridays 7:30-11:00. Please make your check payable to Glen Grove School. Overdue books not paid for or found will stay on your child’s account for the following school year and will affect how many books he/she can check out until paid for or found.
Summer Reading
The Glenview Public Library’s summer reading program started June 1 and runs to August 3. Sign up at the children’s department. Record your child’s reading online or on a paper log. Children who read 1,000 minutes, (only about 20 minutes a day) for the 64 days will earn a free book and a raffle ticket for the opportunity to win one of the prize baskets. The Niles-Maine District Library started their summer reading program on Saturday as well. The official kick off is the evening of Friday, June 7. Come for the pizza and the fun! Summer reading programs are fun for the whole family from babies to adults. Enjoy all your public library has to offer!
Change for Change
On Monday, June 3, Mrs. Funke brought $700 worth of brand new books to Lurie Children’s Hospital. They were very touched by the donation from Glen Grove and said that, "On behalf of patients, their families and our staff at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago I would like to express our sincere gratitude for the wonderful book donation Glen Grove School made to our hospital!"
Over and over again, we hear from families that activities and “kid-friendly” and “family-friendly” comforts they find at Lurie Children's are what helps them through the most difficult moments they have to face while here, and what their children remember most about being in the hospital. Without the support of people like you we would not be able to create this kind of family-centered environment that is so important to those in our care.
Please let your students know that their donation will make a difference and we are thankful for their help in creating a better and brighter healing environment for children staying with us."
Mandatory Health Forms for 2019 - 2020 Incoming 6th Graders
Please remember that all incoming 6th grade students MUST have a physical examination (within the last 12 months), including required vaccinations, turned in prior to August 21, 2019. Your child will NOT be able to start school until the physical form is turned in. If your child’s health forms are already complete, you can turn them into the Glen Grove health office any time between now and the last day of school. They will be forwarded to your child’s middle school with their health file. If you have any questions, please call Mrs. Hastings, Health Coordinator, at (847)657-2394. Click here for the health exam form.
