ROCK CREEK STAFFING UPDATE
As was shared at our PTC meeting on Tuesday evening, due to our projected declining enrollment by our District demographer, we anticipate losing one classroom teacher at Rock Creek next year. This is tough news for us.
However, with the increase of earmarked and designated funding, all elementary schools will increase their Intervention (Academic Coach) & Student Success Coach positions to be full time each next year. Rock Creek will also have a half-time Social Worker. The funding for these positions cannot be used for classroom teachers and is part of the SIA & ESSR funds from the federal government that are targeted for student support. We anticipate that many of our students will return to full time school next year and we will need this additional support. We are grateful for this funding and know that it will be used well at Rock Creek.
Our projected enrollment at each grade level next year are below:
1st grade 69
2nd grade 69
3rd grade 68
4th grade 93
5th grade 84
Some of our funding is specifically targeted at reducing class size at grades K-2 and must be used to make sure that we are keeping those class numbers lower.
If you have questions about staffing or the new / increased positions at Rock Creek, or anything else-- please contact me.
Thank you for your support,

SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL
Beaverton Safe Routes to School Parent Surveys
It’s data collection time again for Beaverton’s Safe Routes to School program. The purpose of the program is to make walking and rolling to school safe, convenient, and fun.
Parent’s and guardian’s input into how students travel to and from schools and their impression of the safety of the route is valuable as the city and county prioritize needed improvements for our roads.
The following link was generated from the National Safe Routes to School Center and will be combined with classroom tallies to give us a good picture of how students are getting to and from schools throughout the district.
The school’s survey will be open for responses for three weeks starting May 1st.
We appreciate your help in giving us information to make our program effective for all Beaverton School District students.

SCHOOL MEALS FOR EVERY IN PERSON HYBRID STUDENT UNLESS YOU OPT OUT
OREGON HEALTH EDUCATION STANDARDS
Oregon Health Education Standards
The Great Body Shop, published by The Children’s Health Market, will be used to teach the Oregon Health Education Standards. It offers skills-based instruction that addresses physical, social, emotional, and mental health. Human Sexuality Education instruction is age appropriate, medically accurate, and relevant for all students.
Erin’s Law (Sexual Abuse Prevention)
An important component of our curriculum is to help children protect their bodies, get support when abuse has occurred, and report to a trusted adult. In accordance with Erin’s Law, we are educating children about sexual abuse and promoting awareness within our communities. The Oregon Department of Education has required all Oregon schools to comply with Erin’s Law. The Erin’s Law lessons address personal safety, touching safety, and assertiveness.
Previewing Materials/Opting Out
The process for previewing materials and opting out of instruction will be slightly different due to the pandemic. Your child’s teacher will be sending communication home prior to instruction in human sexuality and sexual abuse prevention to address this.
Thank you for helping us to make our school a safe and supportive place where everyone can learn.
