Once in a Lifetime Big Apple Trip for Fine & Performing Arts Students & Staff
This past weekend, December 1st-3rd, I took an once-in-a-lifetime trip to the Big Apple: New York City. I was excited when I got up at 5:30 for a 6:30 departure to the city. On the way, 50 students and faculty rode along coastlines, stopped for some emergency coffee, and complained about how long the 6 hour ride felt. We arrived at 1:30, missing our first museum by an hour. Fortunately, with every downside, there is always an upside. We met our tour guide, Robert, and went to Herald Square to see the world’s largest Macys and shop for some time. Later, we participated in a theater workshop where we met Steven Cassaro. Steven was part of the cast for “Fiddler On The Roof” and had previously performed in “Kinky Boots”. He offered very important advice for us rising actors, artists, and musicians. That night, we traveled to Times Square to be enveloped inside an advertiser’s dream and a new year landmark. Soon after, we piled into the Al Hirschfeld theater to see the eccentric musical “Kinky Boots”; a show about a shoemaker getting help from drag queens to save his shoe factory. After a long day, we finally rested at a Hilton in Secaucus, NJ.
On Friday, we visited the Whitney Museum of American Art, Chelsea Market, Herald Square, The Empire State Building (but never got to the observatory due to hours of waiting), and ended the night with the classic “Fiddler On The Roof”. In between all that madness, we participated in another Improv workshop. Our humongous group was split between two professional actors. My room was directed by Lou Liberatore, an actor who was nominated for a Tony Award and worked on hit shows like Sex In The City and Law and Order. He taught us simple but effective tools to succeed on the stage. Some other highlights from that day was being able to see the lit Rockefeller Tree and take pictures with it and seeing a melting human candle at the Whitney Museum.

Creative Writing Project on Display
It's looking a lot like the holiday season around school, and upstairs in one of the Art Department's display cases, you will find holiday candy houses created by the Creative Writing classes and members of Sandscript. Each house is displayed with a story written by the student about his or her house.

A number of MRHS students participated in the Chatham Turkey Trot to help raise $40,000 and deliver over a ton of groceries to the Food Pantry. The students volunteered their time and enthusiasm. A special thank you to Jack Watson - senior who helped chair the MRHS recruiting.
Shark "Shout Outs" MRHS's way of Appreciating the Great People That Make Our School "A Home Away From Home"
Shark Shout Out to Sophie Clingan, Jaymie Buffington, Emma Bowden, Margo Dery, Noah Concordia, Brandon Willis, Tre Cohrs, Cam Archibald, Perry Comeau, Abby Higgins, and Trevor Russell for taking a leadership role and for coming out of your comfort zone to speak at the school committee meeting or the dessert reception on Thursday night regarding your experience with your Spanish exchange student. We also want to thank the rest of the MRHS students who hosted an exchange student and treated them like family.
I'd like to send a Shark Shout Out to Richard Houston for taking the time to talk to my Honors American Lit class about McCarthyism as we wrap up our study of Miller's The Crucible and our "witch-hunt" research papers.

This year the Turkey Trot was able to write a check to Lower Cape Outreach in the amount of $40,000 and we delivered over a ton of groceries to the Food Pantry. The students that volunteered their time and enthusiasm were so appreciated. I stressed to all of them that their support will allow families to stay together, pay their bills, and for kids to wake up in a warm place with food on the table. They were amazing

Shark Shout Out to David Alexander and John Anderson for a wonderful presentation on the 75th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor during our enrichment period. The students who attended created Found Poems from primary sources of 1941. These terrific poems are on display on the History Wing walls upstairs.

Shout Out to MRHS students - Our Nov. Blood Drive brought in 35 pints of blood to help many on Cape Cod. The blood drive was co- chaired by Sophie Clingan and Emily Greco.
The Student Council members and Mrs.Cote would like to send a Shark Shout-Out to Blaine McCoy in recognition of his kindness and generosity. Every time we sponsor a "Caps and Cups for a Cause" Friday collection, Blaine donates without expecting anything in return. Today, students could wear pajamas for a $1.00 donation. Blaine, as always, made a donation that equaled a quarter of what we collected from the entire school - He didn't even wear pajamas or a hat! Thank you Blaine for being so caring and generous - it does not go unnoticed!
The Harwich PTO wants to publicly thank the Monomoy Regional High School students who volunteered their time Saturday morning to help at the Harwich Elementary School Holiday Bazaar – we couldn’t have done it without them!
