Arroyo Seco Jr. High School -- August 16, 2019

Principal's Message

Hello Seco Families,

Welcome Back!

We are up and running and the first week of school was a success. It is very exciting to have students back on campus and in classrooms. Thank you for all of your support in making this a smooth opening.

Please check the "Upcoming Events" listed below. Please note that every Wednesday we are on a Late Start schedule, with the first class beginning at 8:55 (normal dismissal of 2:10). We will conduct a Lockdown Drill in students' classrooms on August 26; teachers will briefly discuss possible scenarios and responses with their students. Labor Day is on September 2, and there will be no school that day. September 5 is a minimum day (dismissal at 11:35 am) with Back to School Night that evening.

Happy Friday and have a great weekend!

LEAD

For many years at Arroyo Seco, our motto has been "We Lead, Others Follow." This past year, our staff worked to define what it means to "LEAD." This resulted in the acronym LEAD: Learning Empathy Appreciation Determination. We also developed the chart you see here, identifying our expectations for students in a variety of settings on campus. This chart is posted throughout campus and can be found in your children's binder reminders and on our school website. We also addressed these ideas with students in our opening assemblies through their PE classes and will refer to them throughout the school year.

We have an amazing group of students and a fantastic community with which to work. We appreciate all of your support in encouraging our students to be the best they can be. We are looking forward to an outstanding 2019-20 school year!

Big picture

Student Pick Up and Drop Off

Thank you for your patience with picking up and dropping off your students. The first days of school are always challenging as families establish routines and procedures. Here are some reminders and recommendations.

You may want to drop your students off by 7:15 to avoid traffic and to ensure they are here on campus by the 7:45 am start time. Campus supervisors are on campus by 7 am. The first class on Late Start Wednesdays begins at 8:55.

Student dismissal is at 2:10: If you arrive at 2:20 to pick up your student, the buses should be gone and much of the traffic will have dissipated. Campus Supervisors are here to help ensure your students’ safety. Please note that campus supervisors leave at 3 pm – your child should be picked up no later than this time.

We encourage you to utilize our city buses dedicated to Arroyo Seco students. The buses leave a few minutes after dismissal – for complete schedules, please view the City Transit website: http://santaclaritatransit.com/files/2019/08/Arroyo-Seco-2019-2020-WEB.pdf

Please note the change in the traffic light system at the corner of Seco Canyon and Decoro. Pedestrians are now able to cross in both directions at the same time during peak drop off and pick up times. No right turns on red are allowed at these times.

There is no stopping on Decoro to drop off students; this is a safety hazard. Thank you for doing your part to follow all traffic regulations and to encourage your children to follow all safety rules when coming to or leaving campus, including staying on the sidewalks and in the crosswalks.

Thank you for all of your support as we have successfully opened the new year. We are looking forward to a fantastic, safe, and productive 2019-20 school year!
