Principal's Message
Happy December Hawks!
Last month we held our first Rec Night at Horning and had a great turnout. We had volleyball, basketball, football throwing, soccer, LEGO building, and lots of card games going on. See pics below. Our next Rec Night is January 26, more details to come, and hope even more Hawks can attend.
Our Winter Dance is also right around the corner and will be on December 15th. Tickets must be purchased ahead of time, and will be available to buy the week of the dance during our lunches. See below for our flyer.
As we move into December our PBIS goal is to be on time, to be prepared, and to be using our planners. Our expectation is that students are using their planners in each class to record their assignments and/or learning, as well as to use the planner as a pass. If your child needs a new planner they are available in the main office for $5. We continue to ask that all students bring their planner, binder, and charged iPad with them to each class everyday.
Our last day of school for the year is December 22 and we will be having grade level assemblies to see our students off.
On a final note before we close out this calendar year: I want to acknowledge all the students, their families, the staff and our community for the hard work it takes to reach and teach each and every child who walks through our doors. With close to 600 students at our building, this is no easy task, and I am proud of the work that has been and continues to be done.
Make it a great December and end of the 2023 year!
Kent Kleinowski
Horning Principal

Meet Our New Staff!
Ms. Franke-Art
This is my first year in the Waukesha school district. I come to Horning from the corporate world working in product and fashion design for over 20 years. I have taught short sprints and mentored in the high school and college space throughout my time as a Designer and Design & Development Manager.
I attended Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design and graduated with a BFA majoring in Industrial Design. After college I moved to Southern California to design for the surf and skateboard industry. I started my own company and continued designing products and apparel for well known outdoor industry leaders. I moved back to Wisconsin in 2010 and started a new journey at Trek Bicycle where I designed and managed the Apparel Design department for over 13 years. Besides apparel and product design, I play in the photography, sculpture and paint world.
I am excited to be here and share my passion for art and design with the middle school students here at Horning

PBIS
It will be implemented at all three middle schools in Waukesha this year. PBIS works to explicitly teach behavioral expectations to students in a proactive manner and also to celebrate students who are making good choices. Lessons will be done through Advisory this year and within the classroom when needed.
Bell Schedule for the 2023-24 School Year
All students will begin the day with Advisory and receive instruction in all four core academic areas each day of the week
Each class with be 44 minutes in length with the exception of blocked ELA and Math which will be double that time
Attendance and Electronics Reminders
Attendance:
Attendance is extremely important.
Our school wide expectation is that every student is arriving to their scheduled class on time prior to the start of class bell. This will ensure that active learning time is maximized and students are receiving the best learning environment possible.
Students have 3 minutes to transition from one class to the next. This time should be used to prepare for their upcoming class.
Students are able to access their lockers before school, before lunch, after lunch, and at the end of the school day. Students should be utilizing these opportunities to prepare themselves for their early/late classes.
Please do your best to make sure that your technology (iPad) is charged and ready to go at the start of the day. This will ensure classroom time is maximized for learning.
Cell Phone:
The School District of Waukesha has in place a cell phone policy that requires cell phones to be placed in their locker upon entering the school building. The phone should be turned off and left in their locker until they leave at the end of the school day.
Thank you all for helping support us in a successful school year. Working together we can accomplish great things.
