Admin's Anecdotes
I thought this excerpt from Eagle Poem by Joy Hajro, encapsulated your resilience and growth, kudos to those of you who used this poem today!
“...To one whole voice that is you.
And know there is more
That you can’t see, can’t hear;
Can’t know except in moments
Steadily growing, and in languages
That aren’t always sound but other
Circles of motion..."
Great work, Herons!

See something say something
As always, our community guidelines and considerations are important to remember. If you take nothing else from the statement below, please reinforce with your student(s) that if they see something, say something. Tell a trusted adult if you see something that is off, someone being mistreated, or something that you just feel could need attention.
Our community of kids is absolutely fantastic. With that being said, the middle school years (at no surprise to anyone) is a time of growth, change, and really a tremendous social transition from childhood to adolescence and young adulthood. This time of growth is so varied for our students and leaves our community with a wide span of maturity levels that requires reinforcement around social norms and sense of community. Our staff at VRMS explicitly teach social emotional skills while also reinforcing and teaching our students what it means to be a successful Heron focusing on Respect, Resilience and Responsibility. Our VRMS community does not tolerate harassment or bullying while also honoring our duty and responsibility to educate students. Using perspective taking and a restorative approach, we attend to social challenges or student choices that impact the social and mental well being of every individual in our community. Please, if your student ever feels isolated, ostracized, or like they are having any social emotional or mental health challenges, please encourage them to check in with our amazing counseling team, Ms. Kelley and Ms. Allen or really with any trusted adult in the building.
It takes a village and we are here for it! Fly Herons Fly!
Congratulations to our recent Extracurricular Activities
Band and choir concerts and performances
The talent and involvement is out of this world in Ridgefield! A huge shout out and congratulations to our performing arts departments for their performances this week and last, both at the High School and out at the Hometown celebration. Nice work Band and Choir, way to represent VRMS and Ridgefield!
Basketball and wrestling wrapping up their seasons
Congratulations to our Wrestling program and Girls Basketball teams for their extremely successful seasons! Watching you all grow and progress through the season was an absolute joy, we protected our house and took care of business! Fly Herons Fly!
Counselor’s Corner
Understanding the differences and using the correct language between terms like mental health, mental distress and mental illness is essential for us to reduce the stigmas and intervene more appropriately when needed. The video attached from Mental Health Literacy explains the pyramid of mental health.

Athletic events reminders
We have a really proud tradition of athletic involvement and attendance here at VRMS. We are really excited and appreciative of our coaches and athletes and the dedications they make to representing our community well each and every day.
For athletic events, a few reminders:
Students that are planning on attending games MAY NOT just hang out after school and wait for the game to start. Students need to go home first and return for the games.
RSD does charge an entry fee for events. This fee is an Associated Student Body (ASB) fee that goes directly to the student ASB funds, which the use is directly determined by the students in the ASB program.
The fee is $3 for adults or students without ASB and $2 for visiting students with ASB, Active Military, Veterans or Students grades K-6. $8 for a family pass (immediate family). VRMS/RHS with ASB, Age 5 and under, Senior Citizens 65 and over are FREE.
Additionally, in accordance with HB1660 students and families who have agreed to share their F&R status are not charged entry to games.
