Elkton Elementary School Memo
May 3, 2021
A Note from Mrs. Palmer
Dear EES Families,
May is here and the school year is winding down. What a year it has been! There has been four schedule changes that has allowed us to bring more students back into the school building. This month, students in grades 3-5 will be taking the state SOL Tests. These assessments will have no bearing on a child's grade or whether he/she will advance to the next grade level. We understand that there are gaps in what has been taught and what has been learned. The VDOE has waived school accreditation for the next two years due to the Covid- 19 Pandemic. The calendar is in the link below. It is important that your child is in school the day of their SOL Assessments.
With warmer weather here, I want to remind our families about the RCPS Dress Code. The link below (shared last week) list the dress code violations and the consequences for violating the policy. The policy is JFCJ.
This week is Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week. EES is so lucky to have a caring staff, who put your child's interest first. They truly go beyond the call of duty to make their classroom a safe, caring, and engaging learning environment. Thank you !
This month, teachers will be inviting students in grades K-5 to attend summer school July 12th- August 6th. The focus will be reading and math. It will be by invite and transportation will be provided. If your child is invited, I encourage you to have them attend. This is a way to fill the learning gaps and get your child ready for the next grade in school.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. The theme is "Be Kind to Your Mind". Mrs. Hepner, the School Conselor, will be sharing activities with staff.
I am going to be a Grandma next month (my daughter, Ashley and husband are expecting a boy), and I came across an article, I sent them, about raising successful children. I'd like to share it with you.
I wish you well...
