A stay-at-home mom stays home to raise her children and manage her household. She may have one child or several children, and they can range in ages from newborn all the way up to teenagers in high school.

functionalist perspectives
A functionalist would view stay home moms as motivation that keeps the household together. They would say that stay at home mothers probably stay home because of a lack of education or they don't have child care, or maybe even because their husbands want them to stay home.
